When with a 4-1 loss, our goal keeper is our best player by a million miles, there's something really rather fucked up with our team. The defense looked like they'd never seen each other before, Rooney looked unfit and Capello brings on Heskey when we need three goals to win in twenty minutes ( Read more... )

What a disaster! It was like watching a car crash-only in slow motion-you don't want to look, but something about it makes you continue watching. England only played well in the range of the fifteen minutes or so when they scored the two goals. I was furious that the second goal wasn't allowed, it very obviously went over the line by a foot or more. I think this disheartened the English team to an extent.

At the beginning of the first half and the entire second half, they were just really, really bad to put it lightly. They looked tired and slow in comparison to the Germans. In short and in all honesty, the German team were younger, fitter, faster and taller than the English team.

I couldn't understand why they kept letting Lampard take all the free kicks-I just don't think he's good at scoring from a distance. Apart from the goal that was disallowed, he missed all the other tries. Why not let someone else take a shot at it. And yes, they looked like they didn't even know who their teammates were-what with losing the ball to the Germans, not having a strong defence...

Yes, how strange is it that the best player was the goal keeper when the score was 4-1? That says a lot. I would say that Gerrard played well-he created a lot of chances. And on Capello's part-he made the changes too late. I won't blame Capello though. The England team needs to take a good look at itself and make some big changes. Getting rid of the coach and replacing him with another one isn't enough or even fruitful-many of these players need to go. They are past it, to be honest. I don't watch a lot of football, just the World Cup really, but when my brother says that these guys are the best of the best, in top teams, in the Premier League and stuff, that's all well and good, but if they can't deliver where it counts, I don't really care.

I didn't watch the hour or so of 'hype' before the match where they try to raise hope in us that England will win. Anyway, I am kinda sad about it and hope that England will win the World Cup or get to semi finals of the World Cup at least once in my lifetime.

At least now I can watch the rest of the matches without feeling stressed beyond belief. Yay. Go Argentina! Go Spain! Go Brazil! Go Portugal! Go Ghana!:)

Oh, I don't know how this comment turned obnoxiously long.

Alright, I can get behind Argentina and Spain, etc, but not Ghana, since they were the ones who sent us home. *sniffles*

But yeah, I have a feeling that a lot of those players are going to be facing some very hostile fans when they come home. Seamus almost never curses, but he definitely makes up for it when watching the World Cup. Apparently, he felt there were a lot of athletes who played like "cock-sucking wank stains". (!!!!) The *language* on my sweet man! ;-)

As for me, I'm just going to root for whomever is playing Germany, because if we can't have a win, then revenge is second-best. :-)

Hey, I love Ghana! They're my default team as the only African entrants left. Go, Black Stars!!! *waves Green, Gold & Red Flag*

Hee! His speech is delightfully colourful, no? ;-)

I just lurve the way you're now British by default, Dawnie! *tackle-hugs*

Oh, I couldn't continue watching. After their third goal, I just gave up. I couldn't watch us taking such a hammering. It was just so humiliating.

The German team did just play so much better. We made it easy for them by leaving the back wide open but they were definitely faster and much more up for it then we were.

Lampard, I think did better then any of the rest would do. I think he was allowed to take them simply because he practiced them more then anyone else in the training sessions.

Oh, I know the press will start blaming Capello but you're right this is not just about the coach. How many have we had since '66? It can't always be their fault. No, we have to face facts and ask some hard questions about the players who failed to gel as a team.

I get where you boyfriend is coming from and I'm just puzzled. How can they play so well against world class players at club level and then crumble when they play for their country?!

...and hope that England will win the World Cup or get to semi finals of the World Cup at least once in my lifetime.

ME TOO!

"What a disaster! It was like watching a car crash-only in slow motion-you don't want to look, but something about it makes you continue watching."

Perfectly put! It was like viewing a horror movie through the cracks of your fingers. Awful performance! :-(

"I was furious that the second goal wasn't allowed, it very obviously went over the line by a foot or more."

After the fiasco with Argentina-Mexico and the ref's gift to Argy, I have to wonder whether or not some wads have been slipped to the officials under the table; pretty ugly thought, but there you go. :-(

"At the beginning of the first half and the entire second half, they were just really, really bad to put it lightly. They looked tired and slow in comparison to the Germans. In short and in all honesty, the German team were younger, fitter, faster and taller than the English team."

BINGO. Our boys just Could Not. Keep. Up. I was instantly reminded of the Energiser Bunny ads, because Germany was just so much better than England by a mile and a half.

"And yes, they looked like they didn't even know who their teammates were-what with losing the ball to the Germans, not having a strong defence..."

All the defenders should be lined up against a wall and shot. Twice. Except for Upson, who managed to pull one back for us with that lovely header. He should only eat one bullet, for the fiasco that was the first goal. :-P

"Yes, how strange is it that the best player was the goal keeper when the score was 4-1?"

Poor David James. He was the only one working on the entire pitch. He saved three times as many as he let in. The defensive errors were glaring. At least James can hold his head up high; they really didn't give him anything to work with.

"The England team needs to take a good look at itself and make some big changes."

Yep - get rid of the aging, overpriced, overpaid primadonnas, and bring in some people with pace. Why on earth did Capello drop Walcott for Heskey? And I definitely expected to see Agbonlahor on the Squad. *shakes head*

That's because they only care when it comes with a paycheck. Representing their country means nothing to them.

"Oh, I don't know how this comment turned obnoxiously long."

Same here. Lots of ranting to get out of my system!

~I'll shut up now. :-)~
