Samurai Champloo

It has been well over a year since I started watching Samurai Champloo. It follows the journey of Fuu, Jin and Mugen across Japan. Fuu who was working as a waitress (and being rather poor at it too) tricked Jin and Mugen into being her body guards as she goes searching for the samurai who smells of sunflowers so she can kill him. What follows is a very amusing journey as in almost all the episodes the central theme seems to be how the three will find something to eat, seeing as they are so very poor. SamChamp is infused with a hip-hop vibe, reflected in the music as well as Mugens unique fighting style. Think of Cowboy Bebop, a western in space set to jazz. Only SamChamp is set in feudal Japan with hip-hop. Some of the stories present an 'alternative' history of Japan. Like for instance how Baseball came about and the idea of graffiti tagging.

The show has to be approached with a light attitude. It's just a load of fun. The main characters are very interesting and you learn a good deal about them. There is plot development strewn throughout but at about episode 17 you can figure out exactly why Fuu wants to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers so when the big revelation comes a short while after you're like 'yeah, I knew that, pfft!' The show isn't heavily plot driven but the characters and their relationships are such fun that it keeps you watching it. But that doesn't mean it couldn't have been so much better if it had a deeper story line. There were still plenty of pretty gripping and sniffly moments, so that made me happy. I love crying over characters, after all, lol. One of the later episodes just left me ... that feeling is indescribable but maybe it's something akin to heartbroken. Not because of anything that happened in the episode so much as just the imagery in it and the music over all the shots at the end that really did me in. It was wonderful, lol!. But overall it was a very light touch and a feel good show. The ending .... it was satisfying enough. Kind of sad, kind of happy.

I am just relieved I finally saw the remainder of the show after SBS stopped showing it in the MIDDLE OF A TWO PARTER EPISODE!!! Grrr! I shall never forgive them for doing such a thing. Lucky for me I have friends who download a lot of things and are willing to share it.

It was fun watching the show. It made me laugh and cry. I'll have to buy the boxset when I have the money ^__^

Other than that I've been playing a lot of TeamFortress2, much to regret of my monthly download limit. I've also been doing lots of uni work. You know it's a lot when you have to go in on a Saturday and get security to open up the building you're working in. I also bought Xenosaga Episode 2 and 3's official soundtracks. Marc should be proud, lol! I own legit stuff.
Oh, and this afternoon our vacuum cleaner blew up. Mum will be thrilled when she comes home -_- I also downloaded and played the Psychonauts demo. It looks like fun but I will have to buy it for PS2 because the controls on the PC are to cry for bad.

Ja Ne!
