i've also recently become obsessed with nin's the fragile. i avoided it at the time it came out, dismissing it as white trash fodder that was a couple years too late.
but damn if it isn't really really great. it makes me think at times of music for the masses -era depeche mode all amp'd up w/ distortion and noise. what interests me about it structurally and sonically is in line w/ what those flood-produced depeche mode albums had... wierd ambient material being used to generate structure, contrasted with cleaner synth and percussion stuff that all fits together in some really seamless way.
and as a pop album it's pretty solid, i thought a lot of the stuff on his most recent record was a little silly (or rather, the stuff that was on the radio).
