My objection to an article in oc-media.org
Today I sent a letter of objection to editors of the Georgian oc-media.org news website. Here is the text:
Dear Madam/Sir,
On 25 April 2020 your website published an article about my and my colleague’s acquittal: https://oc-media.org/azerbaijani-activists-react-with-scepticism-to-real-party-acguittals/
I did not have much confidence in objectivity of the article given its biased title. However, when I found that our party statement has been deliberately re-phrased, and, moreover, that the re-phrased part has been used as one of sub-titles, I understood that your contributing author is not a journalist, but, in fact, a political activist representing interests of a particular political group in Azerbaijan.
Here is how our party statement has been re-phrased:
“The party noted that they did not overlook that the acquittals were ‘the results of the government's dialogue initiative with the opposition, the adoption of this initiative by the REAL party and the practical transformation of the dialogue after the first contact’.”
And here what the part statement says in reality:
“We, the REAL party, do not overlook the fact that today's acquittals happened at the background of the government initiative to engage in dialogue initiative with opposition - the initiative which we, as REAL party, supported and which has evolved into practical process after the establishment of first contact.” http://www.realpartiya.org/news/126/statement-on-acquittal-of-ilgar-mammadov-and-rasul-jafarov
I recommend that in the future your editors scrutinize contributions from this particular author, especially when her/his writings concern sensitive political issues involving our party or relations between government and opposition in Azerbaijan.
