Soulless

His eyes glued on a figure, who was sleeping on the couch. Not even a second he could put his eyes off him. It was as if he was under a spell or something. Slowly, he caressed the figure’s hair.

He didn’t know who was sleeping there actually. A few hours ago, Myungsoo found him unconscious at the bus stop. Having no choice and a heart to leave him alone there in night, he picked him just like a stray cat and brought him home. Although he didn’t know his name, he knew something. The boy’s face is just too beautiful to stare at. His skin is just too soft for him to touch.

It was as if there was an angel sleeping on his couch now. And if this angel is not taken by someone yet, he wondered if he could reach this angel’s heart, making him his forever. As he kept on caressing the boy’s hair, slowly the boy regained his consciousness, opening his eyes.

The boy opened his eyes and was pleased to see someone unfamiliar smiling at him. He blinked his eyes a few times, to make his sight clearly.

‘You finally awake.’ The smiling boy asked.

He just nodded, before pulling himself into a sitting position. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands, just to get rid of his sleepiness. His eyes roamed at the house, with a thought that he never saw the place before. Meanwhile, Myungsoo went to the kitchen just to take a glass of water.

‘Here.’ Myungsoo handed him the glass of water to the boy.

‘Thank you.’ He answered as he reached for the glass.

Just as Myungsoo thought, the boy has a sweet voice, very soft to hear.

‘Because I pick you up, so I think I have the right to know your name.’  Myungsoo uttered as he sat on the coffee table just to face that boy.

‘Sungjong…Lee Sungjong.’ The boy answered before sipping the water.

‘Then, can you tell me where you live or maybe contact numbers of your parents, so I can send you back.’ Myungsoo didn’t want to say those words because he hoped that Sungjong will stay longer beside him, but he knew what the right thing to do was.

‘I…’ Sungjong stammered. ‘I…can’t remember.’

Myungsoo thought he was joking around at first but then he realized Sungjong was telling the truth because he was complaining of a terrible headache. Didn’t want the latter to be in pain, Myungsoo quickly dialed a number. He tried to ease Sungjong’s pain by embracing the latter and telling him not to try remembering anything.

A few minutes later, a doctor came and examined Sungjong. He told Myungsoo that Sungjong was having amnesia. There was no treatment for Sungjong. Only time will bring back his memories. Myungsoo wanted to help Sungjong but by only knowing his name was just impossible for him.

Myungsoo sighed as he wondered what he should do with Sungjong.

‘What a mess?’ he really didn’t expect that helping Sungjong will bring him this problem.

He couldn’t keep him here with him, not in his parents’ house. And he couldn’t possibly give him away to strangers. Letting Sungjong to wonder off alone will surely ruin his image for good.

Myungsoo sat beside Sungjong on the couch. Looking the boy’s dull face, Myungsoo smiled before ruffling his hair,

‘Don’t worry. I won’t leave you.’

Those words were sent to Sungjong’s ears as if they were a promise made for him -a promise which he could get a hold of. It comforted Sungjong’s heart for sure. And Myungsoo’s warmness that he felt when Myungsoo hugged him was hard to be forgotten. Somehow, he wanted to be with Myungsoo.

*****

The next day, after letting Sungjong slept in his house for a night, he brought him somewhere. He couldn’t possibly take him now, so he decided to put Sungjong in his friend’s care for a while. But Sungjong wondered what Myungsoo’s plan was when they entered a club. There were no people because it was still daylight and there were only workers cleaning up the place.

Myungsoo, who saw Sungjong a bit perplexed, had no choice to hold his hand as if he was trying to comfort him. He didn’t let go of Sungjong’s hand once. Although in Sungjong’s mind was Myungsoo trying to comfort him, as for Myungsoo, the only reason he held his hand was because he wanted to. He loved being close to Sungjong. He didn’t know why but if this is all a dream then Sungjong must be an angel who cast a spell on him.

‘Hyung.’ Myungsoo called someone with a blonde wavy hair, who was wiping a glass with a piece of cloth.

‘L, what brought you so early here?’ He said, putting the glass on the table.

The moment L came close to him, he noticed Sungjong. Being a bit curious, he asked,

‘Who is he?’

‘It’s a long story, hyung.’ Myungsoo said after sighing.

Myungsoo told Sungjong to sit at a table while they sat at another table a bit far from where Sungjong was sitting.

‘You want me to what?!’ He seemed shock after hearing Myungsoo’s request.

‘Dongwoo hyung, please. It’s just for a while.’ Myungsoo begged him.

‘But L, you know what kind of place this is. I can’t keep him here.’ Dongwoo knew Myungsoo’s kind intention to help the poor latter but his request was too much to be fulfilled for him.

‘Please hyung. I’m your regular customer here.’

Hearing Myungsoo’s words, Dongwoo couldn’t protest with it because it was true. But he wondered why must be him, not the others. When he asked that, Myungsoo kept on giving excuses. But the excuses were acceptable for Dongwoo. Myungsoo could never ask for Sunggyu’s help or Woohyun will be jealous. The last time a boy tried to stay close to Sunggyu, Woohyun ended up beating the boy until he was sent to the hospital. As for Hoya, he was currently at his hometown. And Sungyeol, how can he put Sungjong under his care when all he thinks is about coffee, plus he worked here too as a waiter.

It was in Dongwoo’s conscious that this club belongs to him and he could do everything he wants with it. But he knew it wasn’t a place for Sungjong. It’s far too dangerous to a boy at a young age. Anything could happen to him although he was under Dongwoo’s care.

Looking how desperate Myungsoo was, Dongwoo finally agreed.

‘Just watch him.’

‘I know. But I can’t promise you anything. In this club, all actions depend on one himself.’  Myungsoo understood Dongwoo’s words well.

Myungsoo shifted his sight to Sungjong, as he worried a bit. Everything that will happen here will depend fully on Sungjong. That was the protocol here. Anyone knows that. Having trust towards Sungjong, Myungsoo gave his final words about putting Sungjong here for a while.

‘Sungjong ah, I’ll be back okay?’ Myungsoo said as he was about to leave him alone.

But the latter didn’t speak a word. Instead he held onto Myungsoo’s arm. Tears were brimming in his eyes. For some reason, he had a bad feeling about this and he wanted to be with Myungsoo. Wanting to comfort the latter, Myungsoo caressed his hair and said,

‘It’s going to be okay. It’s just for a while.’ Myungsoo had a hard time leaving Sungjong.

But in the end, Sungjong let go of Myungsoo’s arm giving him permission to go as he remembered Myungsoo’s promise. He promised that he will come back for him and he believed in that. Myungsoo smiled bitterly, while pondering why was Sungjong so scared about him leaving him there. In the end he just shook the thought off and left Sungjong there.

*****

It had been 2 days since Myungsoo left him there. Myungsoo never gave Dongwoo a call or visit him once. Sungjong felt like he was left out there. But Dongwoo was surprised how well Sungjong get along with him and Sungyeol. Sunggyu and Woohyun came there for a while and they treated him nice. For the first time, Woohyun didn’t get jealous when Sunggyu was close to Sungjong. Maybe because he acknowledged that Sungjong was too cute to be with his Sunggyu. As for Hoya, he was still in Busan, enjoying his semester break.

Everything was fine until when Sungjong said something,

‘Dongwoo hyung, can I work here?’

Dongwoo almost spurted out the water he was drinking in front of Sungyeol. He quickly put the glass on the table and frowned at Sungjong before saying,

‘No way! L will kill me.’

‘Please hyung. I’m bored to death doing nothing here.’ Sungjong pleaded him.

‘Just let him hyung. He could work as a waiter like me.’ Sungyeol, who was sitting beside Sungjong decided to help him out.

‘As a waiter?’ Dongwoo gave the choice a bit consideration but then something came across his head. ‘Still a no! L will steam me if he knows Sungjong dirties his hand with the wiping jobs.’

‘Come on hyung. L never bothers with me getting my hands dirty before. So he won’t with Sungjong too. ’ Sungyeol’s words made Sungjong wondered a bit.

But he ignored the thought he was having, in order to avoid the bored ness. Dongwoo was pity looking at Sungjong actually. All he did in the club was sit at a booth and eat snacks. Only that he did all day long. Finally after thinking about the perfect job for Sungjong, he said,

‘Okay. I’ll let you work here.’ Dongwoo’s words received a hi-5 from both Sungyeol and Sungjong. ‘But not as a waiter.’

The next words halted both of them. Sungjong blinked his eyes a few times as he asked,

‘Then as what?’

Dongwoo just smirked.

*****

Just like the others night, the club was operating like normal. As usual, Dongwoo always sat at the bar, spending his time talking to Sungyeol, who was doing his job as a waiter. Although the loud noises from the music always interrupt their conversation, they didn’t mind because they were used to it. Almost one year Dongwoo opened this club. The main reason why he opened it was still a secret. And no one knows about it, not even Hoya, his own boyfriend.

‘When will he show up?’ Sungyeol asked Dongwoo while pouring some drinks.

Dongwoo glimpsed at his wrist watch while one of his hand was holding a glass of drink.

‘About 5 more minutes.’

The moment he said that, Myungsoo walked in the club. As soon as he spotted Dongwoo, he went to him with only a question in his mind.

‘Where is he?’ The moment Dongwoo’s ears caught that question that came out from Myungsoo’s mouth, he was frozen.

He never thought Myungsoo could be here so soon.

‘Where is who?’ Dongwoo acted like he didn’t know anything as his hands were giving signal to Sungyeol to stop Sungjong.

But Sungyeol didn’t get it. Instead he was the one who answered the question to Myungsoo.

‘If you’re asking about Sungjong, he’s up there.’ Sungyeol pointed at the upper dance floor.

Myungsoo couldn’t believe his eyes when Sungjong showed up, dancing a song in the club. He glared at Dongwoo, but Dongwoo quickly covered himself by saying,

‘He’s the one who wanted to do this.’

He was perplexed by Sungjong’s action and anger was devouring within himself. He could just dragged Sungjong off the dance floor but that will mean making a scene in the club and he didn’t want to give Dongwoo a hard time.

But he wondered how long he could see his Sungjong dancing at the pole while the others were cheering. He smiled a bit when the word ‘his Sungjong’ came into his mind. Since when Sungjong was his? But only one thing he was sure, he wasn’t planning to share Sungjong with anyone else. Sungjong was his since the beginning and no one could touch him.

Myungsoo could only finish a glass of alcohol in just one sip, seeing Sungjong dancing like that. Sungyeol and Dongwoo decided to shut their mouth as they could feel Myungsoo was burning inside. It wasn’t him to drink like that unless he was mad, really mad.

And Dongwoo had a feeling something bad will happen the moment Sungjong finished dancing. To tell the truth it was Dongwoo’s fault too when he offered Sungjong to dance for tonight. He didn’t know Sungjong could dance so sexy and very seductive to every eye that watched him.

Although, Sungjong was only wearing his casual clothes, a white shirt and a pair of blue jeans, that didn’t stop him to be so seducing.  On Sungyeol’s visage, a smirk was engraved because he couldn’t wait Myungsoo’s action after this because this was the first time Myungsoo was mad.

The moment the song stopped, Sungjong spotted Myungsoo sitting beside Dongwoo. Couldn’t hide his joy and how much he was relieved to see Myungsoo again, he get down the dance floor and walked towards Myungsoo.

‘L hyung-‘ Sungjong’s words trailed off when Myungsoo suddenly grabbed his hand and dragged him upstairs.

‘He’s mad for sure.’ Sungyeol just uttered that.

‘Yah L, don’t mess up the room! I just clean it.’ Dongwoo shouted as Myungsoo was still dragging Sungjong.

Sungjong was perplexed. He didn’t know why Myungsoo was so mad. Myungsoo didn’t utter a word. Instead he brought him to a room, away from the loud noises. Myungsoo knew he shouldn’t bring Sungjong into the room occupied with only a bed, but that was the only place they could talk. The moment Myungsoo locked the door, he shouted at Sungjong.

‘What the heck are you thinking?!’

Sungjong’s eyes were glued on the carpeted floor. He didn’t dare to look at Myungsoo’s eyes because Myungsoo was really angry at him.

‘I…I was bored…’ Sungjong had to answer.

‘Bored?’ Myungsoo couldn’t believe how easy Sungjong could answer that. ‘Don’t you even know what you were doing?’

Myungsoo didn’t let go of Sungjong’s wrist. He held it tight. Although Sungjong could feel a surge of pain on his wrist, he held it back because he didn’t want to make the situation worst. This time Sungjong thought it was best to stay quiet. Words that came out from his mouth will make Myungsoo even angrier.

Not receiving a answer from Sungjong, he pushed Sungjong on the bed only to pin him, making the latter in shock. A smirk suddenly appeared on Myungsoo’s face.

‘Let me just show you, what kind of job are you doing.’

Sungjong didn’t move when Myungsoo moved closer to him, as he was trapped by Myungsoo. He didn’t know how to act when Myungsoo suddenly kissed his neck, rendering him to shiver. Sungjong swore he would never thought of working like that. But what could he do in the situation when Myungsoo didn’t let him a chance to talk.

‘Please…stop.’ Sungjong pleaded as Myungsoo traced his jaw line with his lips.

Myungsoo pretended like he wasn’t hearing his pleads. He kept on touching Sungjong. When Sungjong managed to struggle, Myungsoo took a drastic action to stop Sungjong by stripping his shirt. Sungjong was startled when he felt a warm hand brushing his body. He never thought Myungsoo could do something like that to him.

He didn’t kiss Sungjong’s lips, not once. Instead he only kissed Sungjong’s milky skin, leaving some kiss marks on his body. Sungjong felt the pleasure but this wasn’t what he wanted. He had to admit he wanted to fall in love with Myungsoo, who saved him but not in this kind of way.

Sungjong couldn’t take it anymore when Myungsoo nibbled his ear. The tears that he was holding back, dripped on the bed sheets, staining his face. Myungsoo halted every action when he realized the tears Sungjong was shedding.

He might over do it this time. He quickly got off Sungjong, sitting on the bed, back facing Sungjong. Sungjong pulled himself into his siting position, wiping off the tears on his face. Myungsoo didn’t mean to make Sungjong cry or do anything bad at him. He was just trying to scare Sungjong about what he was doing.

‘Mianhe.’ Myungsoo could say that, as he glimpsed at the latter.

Sungjong forced a smile on his face, knowing Myungsoo didn’t mean to do anything to him. He knew Myungsoo was worried about him.

‘It’s okay. I’m fine.’ Sungjong hoped that his words would convince Myungsoo although he was hiding the fact he was trembling.

‘I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to.’ Myungsoo kept on apologizing as he noticed how scared Sungjong was.

Sungjong really saw Myungsoo meant it and he had to admit he wasn’t scare being touch by Myungsoo. In fact he gladly received his touches. Although it sounded funny, he wanted to be with Myungsoo. He was disappointed that Myungsoo stopped what he was doing. Looking Myungsoo was still blaming himself, Sungjong just smiled before he crawled on the bed, just to move close to Myungsoo.

Slowly, he pulled out his hands just to hug Myungsoo from his back. Myungsoo was dumbfounded by the latter’s action.

‘Take me…with you.’ Sungjong didn’t stand being here anymore.

He only wished for Myungsoo to take him. Every single second, he couldn’t stop hoping that Myungsoo will come for him. Myungsoo just grinned. He didn’t say a word but only nodded. Sungjong was happy receiving an answer from Myungsoo.

Myungsoo broke the hug, just to shrug off his coat and put in on Sungjong.

‘Should we go back now?’ Myungsoo asked, smiling.

‘Where to?’ Sungjong frowned.

‘To our house.’

Sungjong just blushed hearing he said ‘our house’.

*****

Since that day, Sungjong lived at Myungsoo’s apartment. Myungsoo also had already prepared him to enter the same college as him and the others. Everything Sungjong needs, Myungsoo will fulfill it. There were no words in their relationship. No one ever confess or say a word about their feelings towards each other. They didn’t even have a rule saying that they need to be together because they just did. Without words, they sleep in the same bed. Without a sound, they spend their time together as lovers. Without any agreement, Sungjong was Myungsoo’s.

Sungjong was happy staying with Myungsoo. He didn’t mind not remembering a thing about his past because all he cares was his future with Myungsoo. He only needed Myungsoo in his life.

*****

Finally they started college back. Sungjong was spending most of his time with Hoya because they were in the same course. Sungjong had fun being in college and he always made time to have some coffee with Myungsoo after college at the café. Every day his feeling towards Myungsoo become stronger and stronger and he couldn’t stop it any longer.

He wanted to confess to Myungsoo but he was waiting for the right time. He wondered if Myungsoo has the same feeling towards him too.

That day, Sungjong was walking down the hallway with Hoya as they finish their dance class. They were talking and laughing about Dongwoo ripping his pants in public during the college musical. Then, Sungjong’s eyes caught sight of Myungsoo.

He halted his pace to see Myungsoo was at the college park, sitting with someone on the bench. He was with Sungyeol. He wanted to walk at them, joining them but somehow Sungjong had a bad feeling looking at the two. Hoya noticed Sungjong was eyeing on the two.

Sungjong frowned to see how close Myungsoo was with Sungyeol. Myungsoo even ruffled Sungyeol’s hair. And Sungyeol just let him do that as they were laughing about something.

‘The two…they used to be lovers.’ Hoya’s words made Sungjong’s heart felt a bit pain.

‘Really? I didn’t know.’ Sungjong smiled bitterly.

Myungsoo never told him before. In fact Myungsoo never told him anything about himself. Hoya just stayed quiet as he saw Sungjong’s eyes were teary.

‘Can I say something?’ Sungjong asked Hoya.

‘Sure.’

‘I’m glad.’

‘Huh?’ Hoya could only blink his eyes.

‘I know as a friend I should pity them for breaking up, but somehow I feel happy. What a terrible friend I am?’ Sungjong laughed a bit, holding back his tears.

Hoya understood it now. Sungjong, he really loved Myungsoo. And Hoya believed in that.

**********

HHeHHHhhh

‘Where are you going?’ Sungjong asked Myungsoo as he noticed Myungsoo grabbed his car keys.

‘Dongwoo’s club for a while. I need to take my paper works from him.’ Myungsoo never lied when Sungjong asked him.

‘I want to tag along. Can I?’ Sungjong put on his puppy eyes, hoping that Myungsoo will let him.

‘No way.’ Ever since that day, Myungsoo forbid Sungjong to go Dongwoo’s club.

Sungjong pouted as he slumped himself onto the couch.

‘It’s not fair.’ Sungjong complained as he was pissed off.

Myungsoo just grinned seeing the boy acted like that.

‘Then let’s be fair.’ Myungsoo’s words caught Sungjong attention, eyes on him.

Myungsoo suddenly put 6 chocolate bars on the coffee table in front of Sungjong. Sungjong just frowned, pondering what Myungsoo was up to.

‘I already put some notes on underneath the wrappers of the chocolate bar. All you need to do is to pick one, open it and read the note. If the note says you can go, then you can. But keep this in mind the probability of picking the right one is only 1/6.’ Myungsoo explained as he smiled.

‘Someone’s being childish.’

‘Just pick one already.’ Myungsoo ordered him.

Sungjong didn’t know which one to pick because they were the same. Same flavour, same wrappers and even the same sizes. In the end, Sungjong just randomly picked the third one from his left.

Slowly he opened the wrapper, and a note really fell on the floor. He picked it up and skimmed the note,

‘Mianhe, you can’t go.’

Sungjong pouted as he chose the wrong one.

‘Maybe next time, Sungjongie.’ Myungsoo ruffled the boy’s hair and went out.

The moment Myungsoo stepped out the apartment; Sungjong tore the note into pieces. He really wanted to follow. It had been a while since he met the others. It’s true that Sunggyu and Woohyun always came here but he wanted to hang out with them.

As anger was engulfing himself, he decided to eat the chocolate bar. In just an hour, he had already eaten 5 of the chocolate bars. And all of them contain the ‘cannot go’ note. The last chocolate bar must be right one. Sungjong sighed as he regretted not to pick the right one.

Without any hesitation, he opened the wrapper of the last chocolate bar. The moment he opened it, he pulled out his phone, calling someone. When that someone picked up his phone, he shouted through the phone,

‘Cheater! You trick me!’

Sungjong could hear that someone was laughing through the phone.

‘Mianhe Sungjong. But that’s the only way to stop you from coming.’

‘You bad guy.’ Sungjong just uttered that.

L tricked him for sure. All the chocolate bars contained the notes that written he couldn’t follow Myungsoo.

‘Why did you do that?’ Sungjong asked, as he didn’t notice someone entered the apartment.

‘Because I love you.’

Those last words from Myungsoo were the words he was been waiting for. But he didn’t hear them. Getting no answer from Sungjong, Myungsoo asked,

‘Sungjongie? Can you hear me? Sungjongie??’

The phone was cut off suddenly. Myungsoo frowned as he was sitting beside Dongwoo in the club.

‘What’s wrong?’ Dongwoo asked.

‘Sungjong just hung up on me.’ Dongwoo just laughed hearing Myungsoo.

He found it funny that Sungjong hung up after Myungsoo confessed to him. But just after Myungsoo answered that, they heard a sound of glass shattered on the floor. Both of them were shocked to see Sungyeol accidentally dropped a glass.

‘Are you okay?’ Myungsoo asked.

‘Yeah…I..I’m fine.’ Sungyeol looked scared for some reason.

As if he made a mistake. Not a mistake for dropping the glass, but a worst mistake ever.

‘Since when you become so clumsy.’ Dongwoo uttered as he helped Sungyeol to pick up the broken glass.
