Ok, so remember when I said I was never running again and that I'd never do another race? Yeah...I lied. Or changed my mind, whichever. I am going to run the
Rockvile Twilight 8k on the 19th. It's less than my last race by 1.3 miles, so I should be ok.
Since running the 10k, I've had knee, shin, arch and ankle problems. I am (successfully) working on fixing those problems, though, so I should be set for the race.
Anyway, last night I decided to go for a run - 10 minutes running, 2 minutes walking. Repeat 2x. I was halfway through my 2nd set of running when it started sprinkling on me. It actually felt good, so I just enjoyed it. Then it got harder and harder. Ok, no big deal, I'll have mascara running down my face. Then the flood gates opened. It was POURING. It was coming down so hard that I couldn't keep my eyes open and had to keep wiping my face off to be able to breath. It was like being in a shower...only in public, fully clothed and without any soap.
I had to laugh at myself. There are always runners out on my route, but I was the only one dumb enough to be out there last night. Well, there was one lady who was walking her dog, but that's it - just the two of us. Anyway, the downpour was short lived, so I managed to squeeze some water out of my shirt (which was sticking to me like shrink wrap...as were my shorts) and squish my way back home.
The sun came out as soon as it stopped raining and it was actually quite pretty - this ray of yellow light streaming out from the clouds. The sidewalks were steaming from the heat so it was like running through clouds. When I finally turned into my neighborhood (which is east) there were multiple rainbows shooting out from the woods. It was gorgeous and totally made the run worth it.
On a side note, my clothes and shoes are still wet.
