Today was the first day of the online gongfu cha tea tasting class from Tea Geek, about which I posted here before.
A week ago I got the box of tea samples in the mail. Intriguingly it consisted of five small bags of tea labeled only "Sample A" to "Sample E." There were no instructions or other directions. I went back to the online site where I registered and in the purchase confirmation noticed a link to the online class site where they had more explicit instructions.
Each Sunday for five Sundays (starting today) they are posting class materials and instructions on a rather nice classroom site. This site has spots for profiles of each participant, forums for class member discussion, a syllabus, notes from the instructor, and links to all the documents presented each week. Nice.
Today's coursework was a short document on the history of Taiwan's tea industry, and guidelines on visually evaluating tea. The coursework was then to take the five samples and use these guidelines to make observations and guesses on what the five teas are.
So far, so good!
