Finally saw X-Men

I liked it. Sometimes I thought it was a bit schmaltzy. The end was lovely. I will probably read the stories that appear on my flist, but doubt that I will write any possibly because I am ever so slightly obsessed with Sherlock and hoping that a bunny or six will bite me. Not that I have fallen asleep to Sherlock at any point in the past two ( Read more... )

when it comes to angel, at first i was pissed and then after i thought about it for a minute i thought her turning to the "dark" side made a lot of sense. the people who go with shaw (and then magneto) are all the ones who have been marginalised: mystique, the red guy, the hispanic guy, and angel, who is clearly tired of being stared at and exploited by men.

as for mystique, i found it very odd that charles (who seemed otherwise to be relative non-sexist for his time, albeit calling moira "love" and so forth) talked down to mystique so much. they mention that she ages slower than other people, and although she must be within a couple of years of charles' age, she appears to be about 16 or 17. is she really less mature? or is this just because charles babies her and acts as authority figure over her? he doesn't even let her drink at the beginning of the movie. weird. anyway, raven was fucking awesome and i really want loads of fic where she and charles bro around. charles would be a lot less pompous if she'd stuck around to take him down a peg now and then.

Yeah, now that you mention it, Charles' treatment of Raven didn't totally make sense. I read her as a teenager, although I was initially confused since she looked the same age as him when they met. Her behavior in the rest of the film made her seem like she was 17 though. Charles' behavior makes more sense if he thinks of her as a little sister though.
