Finally saw X-Men

I liked it. Sometimes I thought it was a bit schmaltzy. The end was lovely. I will probably read the stories that appear on my flist, but doubt that I will write any possibly because I am ever so slightly obsessed with Sherlock and hoping that a bunny or six will bite me. Not that I have fallen asleep to Sherlock at any point in the past two ( Read more... )

I would be curious to see an Moira scenes that are cut. I can see where it would have been hard to work them into the main story arc, but maybe that could be a promising space for fanfiction to explore too.

And yeah, I do understand why Angel chose to go with Shaw, and what she said about the way the CIA people stared at her vs. the way her customers stared at her really resonated. I just hate the trope that the most overtly sexual female characters are also the "bad" ones. I do think that villains who really believe what they're fighting for are interesting though, so perhaps there are some good stories about her out there somewhere.

I'd like to go see it alone, b/c I'm dorky like that, but my schedule is such that I won't ever be able to make those precious matinees during the week, so. We'll see. I'm glad you found so much that you liked -- that's encouraging.

I've been pondering whether I should attempt Sherlock fic, and thus far I've been happy with what others have written. I have been turning this plot bunny over in my head though:

Molly, Lestrade, Sherlock and John are all in the autopsy room when a cadaver releases some nasty infections airborne something that leads to quarantining the lab (You can tell from my high-tech lingo that I know lots about medicine). Anyway, Molly and John get to exercise their bamf-ness and take charge of the situation.

The problem is it would require me to know things about airborne infectious diseases or toxins or whatever and I don't, but I do so like opportunities for John to do what he does best, and I would LOVE to see Molly shine in a way she wasn't permitted to in the series.

I went to see it alone too! Secretly, I was pleased that my boyfriend was out of town and could not see it with me. These days seeing geeky movies is sort of like going shopping for new fandoms and characters, and that activity is best performed alone, I think ( ... )

when it comes to angel, at first i was pissed and then after i thought about it for a minute i thought her turning to the "dark" side made a lot of sense. the people who go with shaw (and then magneto) are all the ones who have been marginalised: mystique, the red guy, the hispanic guy, and angel, who is clearly tired of being stared at and exploited by men.

as for mystique, i found it very odd that charles (who seemed otherwise to be relative non-sexist for his time, albeit calling moira "love" and so forth) talked down to mystique so much. they mention that she ages slower than other people, and although she must be within a couple of years of charles' age, she appears to be about 16 or 17. is she really less mature? or is this just because charles babies her and acts as authority figure over her? he doesn't even let her drink at the beginning of the movie. weird. anyway, raven was fucking awesome and i really want loads of fic where she and charles bro around. charles would be a lot less pompous if she'd stuck around to take him ( ... )

Yeah, now that you mention it, Charles' treatment of Raven didn't totally make sense. I read her as a teenager, although I was initially confused since she looked the same age as him when they met. Her behavior in the rest of the film made her seem like she was 17 though. Charles' behavior makes more sense if he thinks of her as a little sister though.
