Those who know me by now know that my attention span is very short, and when it's focused on something, I have blinders on to everything else. Which is more often than not a bad thing, but in this case it's Supernatural, so I guess there are some who are at least going "finally!" and yeah, so these are good blinders for the moment, no? I finished watching up through Croatoan this morning so I should be done with and caught up this weekend, but not without watching Tall Tales again for fun. ("Staring into the sun" takes a whole new meaning with a season and a half worth of coolness to back that up).
I started writing a story outline with similar elements to Croatoan a few days ago before I'd even heard of the episode so now I'm wondering whether to dump it completely or just finish it anyway. It's both interesting and uncomfortable to watch the guilt regarding his father's bargain and death eat away at Dean -- but funny enough, when he seems to be more funny this season I like it anyway even though there's a darker side to him now. Does that even make sense? So basically it's okay with me regarding those two... different sides. There have been some okay episodes but overall I think I like this season more than the first, the first being pretty damn good as it is.
Now, fic meme:
Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
thedeadparrot tagged me with this and I thought I'd take a look and try it as my list of favorites (in anything, really) changes year to year.
'
Aberrant'
(Once Upon A Time In Mexico; Agent Sands, R)
Sands muses on the cocky bastard that entered the CIA so many years before.
New fandom, new character, and a lot of backstory that didn't exist, so I went and filled in my own take. Looking back on it now, it's funny how much comic book references are in there. Heh. But more to the point I liked the way it came out; it flowed, as I could see it all in my head and managed to write it out "shot for shot," more like a demented 21 Jump Street episode (21JS because those caps were what I used as the basis for young Sands at the time).
'
White Room'
(Harry Potter; John Lennon/Harry Potter, NC-17)
Pleasure, for a little while, one-night stand and "see you" following. Nothing more. John picks him for a night and Harry agrees.
Dude. It's Potter and Lennon, along with some young adulthood angst and bathroom sex and wow, this aimlessness makes all sorts of sense now because I pretty much felt like that at the time of writing it. It was nice to try and write a general Beatles tone that the uninitiated would get rather than slipping constant in-jokes and references like in other stories (because you have to stick the knowledge about the daily activities of their tours in '63 somewhere, put it to good use you know.)
'
The Ballad Of Polythene Pam'
(Harry Potter; Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, NC-17)
There are four ways that it can be carried out. It just so happens that those four involve sex.
I will take any and every excuse to write kink, and with that month's challenge being genderfuck, I signed on to do it not just once, but with four scenarios in one, with the usual combos plus bonus het turned slash thrown in. It's the little things that make me happy, like genderswap and old syndicated TV show episodes or chicken McNuggets. Maybe not in that particular order.
'
All This Blood (Under My Skin)'
(Harry Potter; Remus/Sirius, NC-17)
Leaving school, surviving the war, and all the ways of failing in the between time.
This ended up being very fun to write; felt very good afterwards like I'd...accomplished something? I don't know.
anniesj gave me some initial inklings and
regala_electra really pushed my butt into gear and helped shaped the story wonderfully, so the process was very enlightening and rewarding. It was also fun to write Remus and Sirius during the post-Hogwarts years. The notion of being a member of the Order and yet having to possibly carry out unspeakable things, that possible dark side in order to protect the "good side" was intriguing. I think my favorite line might have been 'Sirius kills seventeen more Death Eaters by the time he sees Remus again.' because it's just loaded with images popping out in the 'ol brain there. Either that or I'm a twisted individual (I think the latter).
'
Tensity'
(Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel the Series; Cordelia Chase/Angel, R)
A relationship in tension and restraint.
For some odd reason I see it as a little going away present to ye olde C/A fics. Even though I had my fair share writing one too many schmoopy ones (that shall remain nameless), I didn't like the way the relationship turned out on the show. And I kind of hated the fact that C/A is sometimes seen as fluffy because of that. So here was the chance to do it dark, on a whim. It'd been months since I'd written C/A and it all just fit in my head with the darker tone, S5, the way it should have been, but wasn't.
Not tagging anyone, 'cause I never do, and besides, if you think it's interesting to do, then go ahead and give it a shot!
