So I´m having a normal lunch. In fact, I´m joining one of my bosses at the McDonald´s down the street. She has a dentist appt, so I decide to window shop at some of the nicer stores on our very busy street for the rest of lunch...
I´m cheerfully listening to my ipod as I make my way through a busy intersection, when I notice commotion going on next to me. There´s a dude sprawled out on the ground, because he (on his motorcycle) collided with an oncoming car.
There are a ton of people standing around, but nobody´s doing anything, so I rush over to help. Nobody knows the emergency number (apparently there are like 6 different numbers depending on the kind of emergency) and everyone´s panicking. Injured dude is conscious, in pain, and seriously pissed off at the driver of the car. Driver of the car is protesting these claims, and there are a bunch of people claiming to have witnessed what´s going on.
So I check the dude out. He says his neck doesn´t hurt, but his arm is killing him - from the looks of it, at the least his shoulder was dislocated, and his arm may have also been broken, but not through the skin. He´s got various cuts, and the impact of the crash reduced one of his shoes to various different pieces. Not sure if his foot was broken, the sock was still covering it. Nothing was bleeding too badly. I have to yell at some random Spanish girl who thinks it´d be a good idea to move him somewhere else, lie him down, and straighten him out.
There´s not much I can do for him in the meanwhile other than insist that he stay still, nor would it be advisable for me with my limited certifications to actually do anything. The police have me stick around to tell the paramedics what I know. Paramedics show up, I let them know what I´ve found out and what I´ve done (nothing really, just kept him still) and they took it from there.
Whew. So much for my uneventful day.
