I went to Best Buy after work. They had a fantastic deal on a gaming rig that was $400 discounted:
i7 processor, 2TB Hard DRive
GTX 1060!
For a whopping $1199 (which is really closer to $1300 after tax). However, that type of thing is usually $1600 plus tax. Right next to it was a gaming laptop with incredibly similar specs - i7 processor, 512GB Hard Drive, GTX 1060 or something close to that - for the same price.
Most of the gaming laptops featured i5-i7 processors with GTX 1050 graphic cards, which aren't bad - they're still considered mid-range in the top-of-the-line for the GTX brand - but at $800+... and by that price point, if a desktop is on sale for $1100-$1300, after spending all that money for laptop, it's not really that much more of a hop, skip or jump to just pay the whole $1300 and get a proper, ergonomic set-up.
So I went on newegg.ca and there was another really great deal:
Ryzen 5, GTX 1060, i5, for only $799. The regular price was $1200. I had to check the online inventory was shipping from a Canadian dealer because it seemed too good to be true.
Anyway, Vector and I had a long talk. I sent him screenshots of the gaming rigs and laptops, compared specs/prices, and I think we're going to go to Canada Computers and see if there are any decent deals sometime by the end of June, maybe early July.
I got to play on his computer for a good chunk of the afternoon as well - giving Cities Skylines a go, Maple Story 2 and Guild Wars 2 a brief tutorial - long enough for me to get accustomed to the controls, but not really get anything major done.
My Overwatch team got frustrated with me. They like me, they think I'm a pleasant person and a great friend, and I'm always asking the right questions to improve - but my gamesense and mechnical skill is lacking. So I've been put on the sidelines with one designated day which leaves room for more solo gaming time on Sundays and Mondays!
