Preferred Name

Six months ago, HR told me they couldn't use my ethnic name except for on my pass because it wasn't on my SIN, passport or any other official documentation.

Today I receive an e-mail from HR'S sister site asking if I would like to have my English name (on messenger and Outlook) to be updated to my ethnic name.

This means they're thinking about extending me or possibly keeping me on board for a longer term. :D

I thought updating my name could not be done, and it feels fantastic to hear otherwise.

I use my English name less and less. I still react to it, because it's hard to turn off a 30-year-old reference. But I am more and more dissatisfied and disgruntled when I hear it (which I am sure would make my parents feel incredibly sad).

But outside of them and my bestie... no one ever calls me by my English name. My co-workers didn't even know I had an English name until they had to ask about me on Outlook because they couldn't find me.

My English name is becoming more and more unused by the days pass.
