Not that you guys read and/ or respond to my posts (although I know some of you do and I appreciate it!), but I am working on a repertoire finding assignment, and my question is this ( Read more... )

Not that my repertoire is huge, but I thought I may as well add in my two cents. My elementary school did a musical version of a Robert Frost poem that comes to my lips even now. I think it's called "Stopping by the woods on a wintry evening" and it starts out "Whose woods these are, I think I know; his house in in the village though...". Simple, but dark and lovely. My favorite piece that my HS ever did was "Blow, Blow thou winter wind". It's a sonnet of Shakespeare's set to music and it's executed in a round. I have a weakness for rounds. A biblical piece our Mistress liked to go jazzy with "Didn't my lord deliver daniel?" was also fun.

Thank you!! I'm looking at music websites for composers, but I may have to play some clips for you to see what version you're remembering... :)

I assume the Frost is Randall Thompson's "Frostiana," which you probably know. But we also did a jazzy-round version of "Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind," and if we did, I might have that. If I find more details, I'll let ya know.

two words.

Eric. Whitacre.

his work is contemporary, yes . . . but challenging and hauntingly beautiful. he's an 18th Street Singers favorite. we've done 'water night,' 'with a lily,' and 'sleep,' but he's got a bunch more out there that are also totally awesome.

I read and/or respond! I just have absolutely nothing to add to musical discussions... at least not of the choral type.

But I'm here, I read! :D

Morten Lauridsen's "Fire Songs" and "Lux Aeterna" Lauridsen is just beautiful. "Lux Aeterna" is a bit more accessible, but the chords in the fire songs are so... gah, so tight! I wish I'd gotten to sing the whole cycle ( ... )

Thank you!! No, I am all about getting familiar with more choral works. At the moment, I am looking at High School accessible stuff, so nothing too big. But if you have a moment to look through your collection and type up a list of pieces & composers, I would definitely use it. You are awesome! :)
