Summary: “I'm in charge here, not you. All you have to do is stick with Sam and remind him what will happen to his loved ones if he leaves or contacts them, got it?”
Lex Luthor sat behind his desk and stared evenly at the blond woman that was standing across from him. Her arms were crossed and she had a familiar look on her face that didn't seem happy. He only smiled at her. “I don't see what the problem is, Ruby. You've never had an issue with this job before.”
“That was before Big Brother Winchester was back in the picture,” she snapped.
“Are you afraid of him?”
“No, don't be ridiculous. I can handle him.”
“Then what?”
“You really think he isn't going to try and kill you again, Lex?” She stepped forward and set her hands to his desk as she leaned over it to glare at him. “And after he does, what's to keep him from coming after me?”
“He may be an idiot, but he wouldn't risk Sam's life,” Lex replied simply. “I'm not sure why you're scared. Sam would probably tell Dean that you're just his sweet little girlfriend, stuck in the same terrible position he's in.”
Ruby's eyes sparked at his ludicrous idea that she would be scared, but her lips curled up slightly. “It's what you pay me for.”
“Exactly. I pay you to keep Sam in line, and as long as you do that everything will be fine. Let me worry about the other Winchester.” He leaned back in his seat a little more as he watched her. She stayed where she was for a moment considering his words, then she stood and walked around to where he sat.
“And who's going to worry about you?” She asked, her smirk growing. He turned his chair to face her more and she stepped over to straddle his lap.
“Not you,” he said, just watching her.
“Definitely not me.” She settled in his lap and let her arms rest around his neck. Her hips started to press into his more while her mouth leaned into his ear. “I'm only in this for what I get,” she murmured. His hands found her hips at that and his eyes closed. “And the really hot sex,” she added on.
“How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not that easy.”
“Yes you are,” she breathed, her hand reaching for his fly.
He took a gulp of air and grabbed her hand. “Not here. Not now. Ms. Talbot will be here any minute, and this won't exactly help me win her favor.”
Ruby rolled her eyes, but got up. “Why do you get to have all the fun?” She smoothed her clothes down as she walked away from him. “God what I wouldn't give to get my hands on that...”
“Ruby.”
“I'm just saying. It's not like she's going anywhere. You've got her as your doting little assassin for next to forever, you don't need to impress her.”
“I need to keep her on our side,” Lex replied sharply. “It's easier when she thinks she wants to be.”
“You just want in those tight British pants, not that I blame you, but when will you realize you only want what you can't have? First Lana, now Bela-” Ruby's words were cut short when Lex jumped up from behind the desk and quickly moved to grab her by the arm. He spun her around to face him, and when he did she was smirking up at him. There was an anger in his eyes that she liked. “There's the man I know...”
“Leave Lana out of this,” he said darkly. “And stay away from Bela Talbot. I'm in charge here, not you. All you have to do is stick with Sam and remind him what will happen to his loved ones if he leaves or contacts them, got it?”
Ruby's eyes narrowed more at the words, her smirk since faded, but she gave him a single nod. “Got it.”
“Good.” He let go of her and stood back to adjust his tie as he took a calming breath.
She started for the door, but turned back to give him a devilish smile. “I'll see you tonight.”
“No, you won't.” It was an argument with himself more than her, and they both knew it.
“Yes, I will.” She turned on her heel again, and strode out the door then down the hall. She knew perfectly well that he would come to her; weak, begging for warmth and attention. It was just how it was. She may work for him, but she had him under her thumb, and that's how she liked it.
The elevator doors opened, and a familiar brunette appeared there. Ruby eyed her, her smile turning a little more real than it had been. “Hey, Bela.”
Bela glanced at Ruby and gave her a small, polite smile. “Hello, Ruby.” Ruby stepped past Bela and sauntered onto the elevator, turning to get a glance at Bela's body when she wasn't looking. Bela moved off of the elevator and turned to look at the other woman. “Is it true? Is Dean Winchester back?”
Ruby stepped forward to catch the elevator doors and hold them open. “Yeah, it's true. And still alive unfortunately.” She watched Bela glance down the hallway towards Lex's office. “I told him he should have called you in for it, but he didn't think you were capable,” she said. Bela's gaze flickered back to Ruby, and Ruby kept her eyes on Bela's. “We both know you are though, don't we?”
“Thank you for your vote of confidence,” Bela said a bit stiffly.
“You've always got my vote,” Ruby said, her smirk returning. Then she stepped back and watched the doors shut, relishing the look that was frozen on Bela's face. A look that made Ruby think that it wouldn't be all that hard to get what she wanted from the girl.
She leaned back against the wall of the elevator, crossing her arms and glancing up to watch the floor numbers change. Lex's words echoed in her ears.
I'm in charge here, not you.
Her smirk grew. He didn't know how wrong he was, and she couldn't wait to prove it.
