Disney is updating the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, to be opened in July 2006.

I'm unsure how I feel about this yet. On one hand, I seriously love Disney. Aladdin and Pirates of the Caribbean are two of my favorite movies of all time. Perhaps the changes will make it better. I'm sure there will be technological advances and such, so there's ( Read more... )

Exactly. I mean, it doesn't really have anything to do with the first movie. Maybe it has to do with the next two. Of course, they might not be as good as the first one anyway. But I still want to hold off judgment until I see it.

BAH. Whenever there's something awesome, why do the people involved always want to rework it and add to it and try to make more money off of it with disappointing sequels and confusing updates on everything? There's something almost sacred about really good works of entertainment that beg to not be touched. Leave 'em alone!

AWWW no, Pirates is such a classic ride, they arent allowed to change it.

Thats totally not ok. Thats like when they put the pictures of actors from the movie version of a book on the cover of the new edition of the book.

:-P

I hate when they do that! Gah. It's all about appealing to the mass public who only know the story that way. Retards.

Then there's always the classic move when they write a movie into a book. That's one of the most retarded things ever. a) Books are supposed to come first. That's just how it is. b) Why would you want to read the book if it's just a word-for-word, action-for-action transcription of something you already saw? It'll be boring and take longer.

Word on the street is, they're not taking anything out, just adding a "detour." (meaning that's what my pirate-obsessed sister said she thought)

According to the article, they're changing the storyline to include themes and characters from the movie version. They're replacing a lot of the animatronic characters with movie characters (ie. the Pirate Captain will now be Captain Barbossa and they're introducing Jack Sparrow, as well as Davy Jones).
