I have had a CRAZY time the last week and a half. Some of the best/worst experinces of my life. Ok, thats a bit extreme, but still, its been crazy. Let's start with the bad:
Sunday night, my TV broke. I then hooked up my computer to find that it finally kicked the bucket. I was looking at a good $500 I was about to go out, on top of a $45 parking ticket(which i still have to pay.....). Plus, I had no working computer and therefore had to sit at an email kiosk on a sideways housing cart in order to get any sort of computing done, was a bit out of touch with people not living in towers, ect..
Update on that: I got my TV fixed for $74(ouch, but better than $250), and, to my surprise and gratitude, one of our pathfinder directors GAVE me a computer(i know, amazing). Its an old OAFA computer, but its still a little better than what I had. I'm one step away from getting it working, just need a monitor to borrow so i can set the resolution at a level my monitor can handle.
Oustide of that, my double-turned-single is set up(not decorated, but getting to it. pics to come) and awesome. I'm working everyday from 9-5, but its fun. I get to work with cool people, who are the same people i live with, so thats really fun. I've done stuff like walking/busing/driving around to different parts of the city, dropping off packets of stuff at local businesses/ desgining a downtown/oakland scavanger hunt for the freshman to play when they come in. I've also done some office work, but its not bad/much and im always working with friends. And these are the un-fun weeks...next week I get paid to play volleyball and see movies! I went grocery shopping (another scary step in independence, no meal plan!) But onto craziness:
Monday was a BBQ at flappy's house, followed that night by a kickoff party at another pathfinder's house. Fun times. Tuesday night, we all realized something: we have all of Tower B to ourselves. No RA's, no other people unitl the freshman start coming, and thats only 3 nights a week. So we have an entire dorm to the roughly 40 of us. I have my own FLOOR. So we had the first towers party in the place to be, the 18th floor lounge. truth or dare jenga was a preview of the further bonding I'm sure is to come.
Wed we put some ice and soda in R2D2 and played volleyball on the cathedral lawn, which is an excellent time for all. later was more hanging out/drinking and an O trip.
Thursday Erin came and we watched Survivor, and then we had a poker night, I'm sure the first of many. Friday we went to a party in Wexford with all the pathfinders, and that was a blast. However, the downside was i had to wake up, dirve back to Pittsburgh and then drive to Harrisburg. yeah, crazy. I drove out to Harrisburg to be the camera man for Jon's brother Brian's wedding at the Captiol building. I was a little nervous but I got the footage Jon and Ben need to make a good video, and I had a fun time doing it. Then after my duties were over, we hit the open bar and dance floor for an awesome time. We should have a wedding every weekend. I then woke up, had a hilarious eat'n park experience, and drove back in time to catch the Survivor finale.
TP has moved in as my temporary roomate and i can use her laptop till my computer is set up. She's staying in towers unitl next week, and then she'll move into her house on June 1 when her lease starts. I'm glad she's here; despite not being in my room much, I miss having a roomate.
So I've been having a crazy good(sometimes bad, but that seems to be over with) time in the city, and it seems that it will continue, so I look forward. Time will only tell if i made the right decision. I did NOT have enough time at home. I really enjoyed the time I had with everyone, but I really needed alot more, and im upset it ended so early. Yet, at the same time, though I didn't have enough time at home, when I got back to the city, it felt like I had been away too long. its odd. I miss everyone horribly, and its going to be hard this summer without everyone(I'm coming home memorial day!!), but I'm working a job that is nearly a dream to me, and I'm living in the city i really enjoy, and its where I see my immediate future. So well see.
Here's to a great summer with everyone in Pittsburgh, and everyone at home as much as I can!
