(San Diego, California) San Diego Police have arrested a third person in connection with the weekend attacks on a group of men as they left the city's gay pride festival.

James Carroll, 24, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Both counts carry hate crime enhancements. Carroll was arrested Monday night following the execution of a search warrant at an apartment in Park West. (story)

The other two accused are juveniles. One, a 17 year old, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, the other, 16, was picked up in the evening.

Authorities have not determined if they will be charged as adults.

One more suspect remains at large. Police said they are members of a little known gang that calls themselves "Lowlifes".

Police Tuesday revealed for the first time there was a sixth victim in the attack - a man who did not require hospital treatment and came forward after hearing about the attacks on the others.

One of the victims remains in hospital with a fractured skull. He may require reconstructive surgery.

Another suffered superficial stab wounds. That man and the other three victims were treated and released from hospital.

The men had just left Balboa Park when the assailants began taunting them with homophobic remarks. (story)

The attackers then began fighting with the men and at one point one of the assailants began swinging a baseball bat hitting one of victims in the back of the head.

The other victims were also struck by the bat and one of them said he then felt what he described as something sharp stabbing him in the back possibly from a knife.

As police were announcing the third arrest in the attacks officers were responding to another homophobic crime.

A teenage gang was yelling anti-gay slurs at a suburban security guard as he was being beaten.

The guard was not seriously injured. Police say teens averaged about 15 years of age. Three of the attackers were arrested, others remain at large.
