[LJ2ME] Bared Man

Hands up those of you who remember the movies of yesteryear. You know, where the bad guys are boo-ed at and end up being caught or killed and the good guys save the day with a happy ending. What happened to them?

Caught The Dark Knight, and I guess the box office speaks for itself. Big on spectacle and explosions, it was a literal blast of a movie. Didn't watch Batman Begins, so I guess you can say I'm impressed by the new styling of the franchise under Christopher Nolan.

Villains-wise, this episode probably gets top marks, with Heath Ledger's by-now seminal protrayal of The Joker, eclipsing even that of Lack Nicholson's. Yes, surely at least a posthumous Oscar nod is in order? And Aaron Eckhart's pretty features get messed up oh-so-realistically as Two-Face, also an improvement over Tommy Lee Jones' colourful caricature. But my sentiments still lie with Michelle Pfeiffer's definitive Catwoman from Batman Returns.

But what's it with the whole good within the bad and bad within the good? The superhero has issues to grapple with and contends with identity conflicts and the baddies seem borne out of something pure once but since past their sell-by date.

Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman lend their thespian chops to the flick, supporting Christian Bale's suave billionaire and determined crime-fighter.

And talk about Edison Chen's blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit part, let's just suffice it to say I blinked... Oh well, he's had overexposure of his bits and his parts anyway...
