The TV Critics' press tour is going on in LA right now, and PBS's new line-up was the first one to go under fire. Turns out, Chess (and probably Idina's Sound Stage concert) were part of the "promotion" (for lack of a better word), and Idina was there to impress the critics with a mini-concert. According to one critic, she apparently did her job and did it well.
Candace Havens Tonight's dinner event was just this side of perfect. Sir Tim Rice, a lyricist who has done a few musicals you might of heard of like Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Lion King, as well as others. Engaging fellow with many a great story. He worked a lot with Andy (Andrew Lloyd Webber) and is yet another guy you could hangout with and have a really solid time. Then the lovely Idina Menzel (Wicked, Rent) came on stage to do a private concert. It was a mix of Broadway and songs from her new album. She's beautiful and that voice. Love HER! My only complaint is the girl needs to eat. Really. She's way to skinny. With pipes like that you should have at least one roll of bbq around the middle. ...I'm just sayin.'

Another critic,
Hal Boedeker was there, and he had a bit of info about the Kennedy Center Honors as well.
LOS ANGELES -- Did you see Idina Menzel sing "Don't Rain on My Parade" to honor Barbra Streisand during the "Kennedy Center Honors"?
Menzel, who won a Tony for "Wicked," told TV critics that the night was quite an experience -- for disappointing reasons.
She and her husband, "Private Practice" star Taye Diggs, sat at the same table with Streisand after the event. Streisand told her: "You look good. Did you sing 'Don't Rain on My Parade'? I wasn't wearing my glasses."
At first, Diggs fan Aretha Franklin couldn't believe that Menzel had performed. Menzel said the Queen of Soul told Diggs, "Why didn't you tell me your wife sings?" Then Franklin abruptly walked away.
Menzel sang for TV critics to promote a concert version of "Chess," which will air on PBS' "Great Performances" this summer. She co-stars with Josh Groban and Adam Pascal. Lyricist Tim Rice said the three were outstanding. This version of the 1986 cult musical was performed at Royal Albert Hall in London.
~~sadly, there are not photos from this event [that we know of yet].~~
