today is tomorrow, and tomorrow today, and yesterday is weaving in and out

While I was talking to Dustin about Firefly in general, he came up with some thoughts about Serenity that I rather liked and wanted to post. For those of you who have read spoilers or seen one of the advance screenings, you know that two of the main crew members die. Each crew member can be seen to symbolize something that Mal lost during the war with the Alliance. Wash is humor, Jayne is greed, Kaylee is hope, Zoe is loyalty, Book is faith, Simon is civility, River is innocence, and Inara is love. In killing one of these characters, does that also mean we lose that part of Mal?

Obviously, the crew is a very tightly-knit family. All of the characters are integral parts of the ship and they all serve a purpose. The ship can physically continue to function with a few of them gone, but the death of one or more of the characters puts into jeopardy the very nature of the life they lead.

Just some food for thought, so to speak.

It's hard to believe there's only a little over four weeks before Dragon*Con. Suddenly it seems like there's so much to do and so little time, even though I have very little left to do before the con. Finishing my Moulin Rouge costume shouldn't be too much of a problem, and then I'll fade and age my Kaylee jumpsuit once it gets here and put some appliqué patches and such on it. Not very difficult.

This will probably be my last post before I go out of town for a week. I'll be back on the 7th, I believe. <3
