Compelling and well-written.

For the first time in several years, everyone is together and Randy plans to introduce her boyfriend Alex to the entire family. Except Alex is late and Randy is wondering if he's coming at all.
Everyone, post-canon. Well-written and completely believable.

It's not getting what you wanted that's the issue. It's the unexpected things that come with it.
I haven't read the book, but this absolutely works as a coda to the movie. Excellent writing and characterizations.
