This is What - Horse Feathers
I'm happy to have an excuse to talk about this song! Really all I have to say is that it's my Horse Feathers song of the moment, and I am obssessed preoccupied with the fact that the opening and closing sound exactly like an old-school Gordon Lightfoot song. Possibly, IDK, "Canadian Railway Trilogy." The rest of the song sounds completely Horse Feathers. I got into them when last.fm offered one of their other songs off their first album as a free download; if you like this song, you could always go grab another one. (HF page on lastfm.com)
TV Show - Martha Wainwright
One of my favourite Martha Wainright songs. It reminds me of driving around Freeport in the afternoons, on Midshipman or Seahorse Road or East Sunrise Highway *koff*, with not much traffic on the road and Martha on the stereo. It's kind of drawly (not actually a word, it seems) and jangly and all over the place, but in a good way, you know?
Time Will Do the Talking - Patty Griffin
Oh man, Patty Griffin. Love her, love this album, love that she has a song that begins with T on it for the win meme.
Things I Know - Bonnie Bishop
This is pretty much an insta!rec, given that I started listening to this song about five minutes ago, but gave me goosebumps once, and that's right on. (Also, the line about rubies reminds me of Rachel Howard's TXF fic, "Above Rubies," which is a nice thing to be reminded of.)
Three Pistols - The Tragically Hip
The Tragically Hip (Canadian rock icons, y'all) were my favourite band for years and years, and I would still tell you they are my favourite band, even if I don't listen to them as much as I used to. This is off their third album, I think, and I don't know exactly what's going on in this song, but I am in it for Gordon Downie singing "bring on a brand new renaissance/'cause i think i'm ready/well i've been shaking all night long/but my hands are steady" right near the beginning. And Tom Thompson paddling past!
