I just saw my name on CNN about 5 times. The founders of Scoop08 were just on and they kept cutting to the front page. As it's still blog-style (this may and/or may not change, but I hope a lot of the navigation problems-and there are many-will be fixed when they launch the new version of the site) and my article is thus far the second to last one published, the headline, "Hunting for District 52" appeared quite a few times with my name visible underneath it in smaller letters. However, the part of the article that was visible, the first line, was written by one of the editors. I'm not sure who but I'm betting the ones above Emily.

I've done a lot of work on my second feature. I just have a touch more to do to finish the draft and then off to the editor it goes. Unfortunately, I had to basically write it all based on press releases and a few government reports. It's also very short. I hope they accept it.

The drive back to Houston was interesting. There were seven of us and three cars. This was cool because there was neve rreally a dull moment. Either a passenger change or some kind of error would make things better. Taking three cars added three hours to the trip but I never got bored. I did enjoy rocking out with Matty D for the last half of the trip. He pillaged my car for hard rock CDs, I introduced him to that awesome Rush EP from a few years ago where they cover priceless singles of the 60s, and I accidentally scared him into thinking he got drafted. So final review on caravaning? Only on the way home. It would suck to get to Hendrix late.

When not writing for Scoop08 or seeing my name on national TV because of it TI"ve been getting reaquainted with TiVo. See now, I don't watch TV at school. There are two reasons for this: 1. I don't have the time 2.being a TiVo user for the last seven years has made me completely dependent on having television on demand and without ads. So what have I been watching? I'll start with Tin Man, SciFi channel's reinterpretation of the Wizard of Oz. It's got a lot going for it and I"ve only watched the first third but it's pretty enthralling. I like the Oz as dystopia thing going on, plus there's an awesome cast (featuring camp-master Alan Cumming as an ex-intellectual, my other celebrity crush Zooey Deschanel, and Neal McDonough channeling the times before method, and Richard Dreyfuss as a junkie soothsayer). I'm definitely going to be watching the rest of this. What I won't be watching the rest of is 30 Rock which breaks my heart because it's possibly the best show on TV and only having nine episodes this season due to the writer's strike. It's a hilarious "retelling" of what it used to be like at SNL featuring a neurotic head writer, a crazy lead star, and Alec Baldwin as a misplaced GE exec. This show excels for two reasons: 1. it's completely unpretentious and doesn't take itself seriously and 2. it has a joke density beyond the point of human recognition. There's also the superb cast, celebrity guest stars oh it's just all good. My third viewings have gone to the perverse snarky mind of old-school sitcom producer Chuck Lorre. His two current shows, Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory are basically serieses of one-liner-laden dialogues that are respectively crude and nerdy. I was highly skeptical about Big Bang Theory but busting out a joke about string theory in the first few minutes helped win me over to this one. They're really just extremely well written shows.

I look forward to more TV watching and other general lazing.
