The entry I've been meaning to make for a week.

I really didn't want to come back to school. Thanksgiving Break was well needed and I just felt exhausted. It was time for an extended break. However, upon returning to campus, I realized that making straight A's was still on the table for the semester. First semester Masterpieces of World Lit crushed that through Dr. Savers' extremely innefective class and second semester it was Functions and Models, which continued my trend of not making B's in math classes (having mono at the end continued this and knocked it down to a C). Anyway, despite a semester of confusion in Chinese, apparently I could make straight A's for the semester. I thought about it for a second, there were three tests, a final paper, and two finals left. It would be tough but possible. I think I've got the A in econ tied up, in fact, I'm about as sure as I can be about it without seeing the grade. An 86 and 85 on last week's Accounting and Chinese tests don't make things worse either. I basically just have to do well on the final (and I have a strange feeling Jihong's just going to make it subjectie anyway, which isn't too cool). So what's left? Tomorrow's accounting final (need to do well but I have a feeling it won't be too hard--in studying for it I've found that everything's easier than it was the first time around which is probably just the nature of the material) and my final paper for Buddhism, also due tomorrow. I've got two drafts of the paper done and all I think I have to do is clean up the intro and conclusion a little bit then beef up the part on dukkha. So what's left? Make a final push today in accounting and Buddhism, spend the weekend studying Chinese and then hopefully do well on my two finals and the paper. Getting on the dean's list here requires straight A's but nobody knows more than a handful of people who have pulled it off (and those that do have done it from the start).

In other news, my stories for Scoop08 have stalled again. Well, they did for a while until a pair of rather serindipitous meetings. The first was last Wednesday. The YD's brought in Vic Snyder, Little Rock's illustrious congressman in for a Q&A session. I just happened to show up at the right place at the right time (I thought it was at a different time...oops). Since about a dozen people showed up, I was able to ask a less substantive question about how a member of the press would deal with a Congressional office. Snyder talked about how his office does things and then asked why I was asking. After explaining my situation to him, he told me that presidential candidates would be on a different level and I left shortly afterwards to watch the debate with Nathan.

A few hours later I got a call from Maggie, the YD's Pres who used to be a staffer for Snyder. She said that he was interested in helping me out and that he would deliver a letter to Hunter for me if I were to write one requesting an interview or information. The next afternoon I wrote a letter for Hunter and tracked down Maggie at a reception. Anyway, today she forwarded an e-mail to me that Snyder had sent her saying that he had delivered the letter (both in-person and on the House floor) and Hunter seemed very interested.

A few nights later at the HEAT auction I got talking about my role with Scoop08 to Hannah Sintek, who I knew hailed from non-urban southern California. Turns out her high school gov't teacher used to be Hunter's chief of staff. Things are going quite well on the contact making side of this right me.

Oh, and after about five weeks of spamming his voicemail, Hutner's congressional press secretary got back to me. Then the antenna fell off my cell phone and I can't use it anymore.

In other news, life is good even if I have become a study recluse.
