Excitement

Disregarding yesterday's stage and today as my first day of paid employment (working at Canoesport if not previously mentioned), I'm incredibly stoked about working for theScoop, even if it hasn't really started with. It's kind of like the jitters of starting college. I want to find out who all the folks I'll be working with are (and judging from the e-mail I just received saying several other folks at Hendrix got the job (I know Jake applied, but who else? I'm guessing Katie, Cache, and Houston from the facebook group. and how many is several?) Even though I got a (theoretically more high profile) job than I was gunning for, my mind is still filled with ideas of stuff to do, from the minor (making a video using "dramatic chipmunk" after an Al Qaeda themed clip to make fun of the exaggerated terrorist threat) to the major (proposing that all of us writing take an oath for journalistic integrity and public duty). It's been a long time since I've been this excited about something (going to Italy? discovering Carnegie?). I am just...wow. I'm not happy with the media and have been for quite some time. That feeling made me want to have a piece of it. And sure, I was pretty content with The Magic Al Hour and could have started a blog (one where I didn't just talk about myself), but I've wanted a little slice of the media for a long time. I'm well aware that this is probably going to remain a remarkably tiny piece, but maybe it'll be worth something. This project has potential and its up to us on the staff to make it work.

No wonder I haven't been able to sleep lately.
