The day never goes like you planned

I was on my way to Grace North this morning for liturgy when I swerved to miss a squirrel and hit the curb hard enough to bend the rim of the tire. When I called a towing service that is supposed to accept my auto insurance I was told that since it was Sunday, and they couldn't confirm if I really had coverage, I would have to pay them and get reimbursed. When I asked what the benefit was of my then using their service rather than another one I was told I was welcome to use any service I wanted. Since she told me they could have someone there in 20 minutes (it was 40 minutes, of course), I went ahead and used them anyway. I'm now driving around on the small, funky spare, in the slow lane of the freeway with hazard lights on, and the cruise control set at the maximum they recommend of 50 miles per hour. I have to remember it will take me longer to get to work in the morning. The good news is that I can call the tire guy I know and trust and get him to replace the rim and tire. Not an expense I was anticipating this month.

Went to Grace North anyway since there's a coffee hour and a class after services, and then some of us went out to a nifty restaurant called T-Rex (always makes me think of Dr. James when I go there--I'll have to take him one of these days) for the best commercial mac and cheese in existence and lots of good talk. My favorite thing about Grace North is the loving, knowledgeable, heretics and apostates who attend and run it. One of our readings is always from a non-Christian source, our clergy, as well as many members, are alt in various ways--a very inclusive, curious, open community. Cool place to re-visit Christianity.

Now I'm home doing more laundry, and homework. Will watch "Without a Trace" at 10pm.

For those of you who might like to see a fun movie, I recommend Will Farrel's new film, "Blades of Glory" about the first male-male pairs skating team. I thought they hit it just right, and really enjoyed it.
