Hrrmph!

I'm single on Valentine's day. Hrrmph!

Being able to exchange cards with Wessex-lass last year was nice. Shame about the long-distance and other impediments.

Coupled with...
  •  further bone-headness from the accom-office
  •  a trip on the Bute stairs infront of not one, but two tour parties of prospective UGs (Negligible damage but embarrasing)
  • and a Trojan ( Read more... )

I am sorry that your Valentine's Day was more like a flat beer than a glass of bubbly.

My husband is an archer as well. Maybe we can hook up sometime after we get moved over there in May.

:)

No, we have not met yet. I am a member of the group as well as the online list so that I can start to familiarize myself with people as well as the situations there. I am glad you looked at my blog, though truthfully I have done a rather shoddy job of it over the years and do not keep it up at all. I tried to upload some pictures and was so frustrated that I quit because I could not figure out how to sort them into separate galleries. My myspace page is much easier to work with, though in truth I am no better at keeping it up either ( ... )

Slight correction.

The first link shows you the Cornish breed of chicken.

*My* impression of the US Food/Agriculture terms is that the name "Cornish game hen" expressly refers to a very young bird for eating purposes.
I still think that the term "Poussin" is valid this side of the Atlantic, but I'm not saying that there's no such thing as the CGH over here.

Actually, I am married to a man who insists on covering my lobster with a napkin if we are dining out and I indulge in that delicacy. He cannot abide the eyes looking at him. When he realized what American Cornish Hens were he forbade them from our table, so I doubt that they will be a really high priority for us over there. Though I did get quite a chuckle from your concern over my bubble regarding the little dears. I used to raise Rhode Island Reds for eggs, and I can assure you now that if he realized where eggs really came from that they would most likely no longer be welcome on our table either. (wink)

In all sincerity, I am really looking forward to exploring the local cuisine everywhere that I am able to visit while we live there. I am a bit of an adventurer when it comes to that sort of thing.

Sorry to hear your other half is squeamish with his food. I'm fairly earthy with my food. I grew up in the westCOUNTRY and have eaten wood-pigeons & pheasants that I "took" myself. I had dinner with a Vegan recently and have wondered whether her future company would be worth the dietary sacrifices ( ... )

Well, it is not so much that he is squeamish, but rather the eyes bug him, as does the thought of eating baby chickens. I pointed out to him that eggs were pre-babies, but we just left off of that whole line of discussion years ago. I do enjoy getting a whole lobster sometimes just to provoke him a bit, and I will start with the eyes turned towards me and gradually turn the plate so that they are beginning to face him. It is amusing, actually ( ... )

Actually, I first encountered the CGH when it was mentiond by that Iconoclast PJ O'Rourke. I thought he had British gamebirds all wrong at the time ( ... )

Wrote a reply to stargazy pie query, but since you (or whoever else...?) weren't logged in you wouldn't have gotten a notification...

Well, that is weird, because I was logged in, and am generally always logged in, so boo on lj.

Thanks for posting again to let me know. I read your description with interest. I love sardines, so maybe this could be interesting. I am willing to give just about anything a try...at least once.
