Prompt: Christmas at siriusxginny

The room was bathed in a warm golden glow provided by the blazing fire in the fireplace, located at the front of the room. The walls were painted a rich crème, which contrasted nicely with the dark wood of the fireplace mantle. Christmas cards and holly decorated the mantle, which also contained family pictures. Children were laughing and waving in the frames, conveying their joy and bliss to anyone who looked upon them.

An evergreen pine tree was standing to the left of the fireplace. Its branches were heavy with decorations and ornaments, with colors ranging from the traditional reds to the child-like painted hand-made trinkets. Tinsel and multi-colored lights intermingled among the sharp needles, which still had the faintest trace of snow.

The only thing lacking from this post card Christmas image was presents. Big ones, small ones, and odd shaped ones were the norm of every child’s perfect Christmas. A young girl walked through the door, her arms filled with pretty packages decorated with bows of traditional Christmas colors and wrapping paper which spoke of snowflakes and delicious candy treats.

Her slipper clad foot falls were hushed by the plush carpet. She quickly shuffled over to the tree to place her gifts underneath it. Bending down, she carefully arranged them around the tree. When she was finished, she quietly clapped her hands and stood back up. She knew that she should hurry back to her room, for her parents would be mad at her for being out of bed at such a late hour. Perhaps if she tip-toed, they would never know she was out of bed and she wouldn’t be in trouble!

She had only gotten two steps from the tree when she heard her mother’s voice. “What are you doing out of bed?”

“I was putting my presents under the tree,” the young girl said while pushing some of her dark brown hair behind her ears. She turned to see her parents framed in the doorway, both in their night clothes.

Her father spoke next, “Why don’t you go to bed now?”

The girl nodded and wished her parents a good night, glad that she wasn’t in that much trouble. She hurried back to her room, thanking her luck at not being yelled at. When she got back to her bed, she snuggled under the covers and dreamt of sugar plums and all the presents she would receive tomorrow.

Back in the living room, Ginny turned to her husband. “Presents are Allie’s favorite part of the holidays, you know.”

Sirius gave a wild grin. “Presents may be Allie’s favorite part of Christmas, but they’re not mine.” He pointed upward.

Ginny flushed when she saw what was hanging on the top of the doorway. “When did you put that up? I don’t remember seeing that earlier this morning.”

“I put it up right before you went to bed. Now aren’t I going to get a kiss? It is tradition.”

Ginny smiled before reaching up and tugging on Sirius’ hair, bringing his head down and fulfilling the Christmas tradition.
