The day started with a big family snugglefest, and while it made K late for work, it was worth it.
The internet brought me a delightful smackdown of a clueless naif with a severe case of white man's burden; lots of photos of adorable animals; some new correspondents (hi!); and much laughter.
We took a lovely walk together to the post office (although the doofus who couldn't figure out how to use the automated postal station and entered separate transactions for each of the five stamps he needed sorely tried my patience), and then stopped at the liquor store, where we indulged our goofy sides with two bottles of Vampyre vodka (one clear, one red), as well as our very serious sides with a bottle of 12-year Macallan.
I have made what I think might be the most ridiculous hat ever. (I'll try to get some photos on
costumiere tonight or tomorrow.) Even better, because it has onion-grass sprigs on it, Kaga wants more than ANYTHING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE to play with it, and spent a significant amount of time crying longingly and trying everything in his power to get to it. I've put it safely out of his reach (at least I hope I have), but watching him try so determinedly is pretty darn amusing.
We watched Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and I know I ought to be ashamed that it makes me laugh so much, but it does. hehehehe"Cocknocker"
We made a simple but lovely dinner together: lamb steak with onion and garlic for K; roasted portobello mushroom with onion, garlic, red pepper, and salem blue for me; wilted spinach with olive oil and lemon juice; and
Tildio Winery 2006 Malbec, which is spectacular, soft on top with dark berries, finishing with gentle tannins and a touch of spice. For dessert I had chopped gala apple and red Bartlett pear with walnuts and salem blue, drizzled with honey balsamic vinegar.
The Mentalist is especially entertaining this evening (though I'm a little sad we had to choose between it and Reaper).
This is the kind of day that really makes me aware of how wonderful life is even in the everyday things.
