20 Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury Icons
Hello 2012 ^^' Well, I still have a lot of work to do cleaning up things around the community plus archiving my many old HP and remaining AMVG icons... I'm such a procrastinator, when am I ever going to get to that... but in the meantime I decided to do a claim over at anime20in20 to inspire me to actually post something here this year.
Here are 20 icons of Ami Mizuno aka Sailor Mercury, who I chose as my female character because Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon was basically the first anime I was ever exposed to and she was always my favourite! That and I really like the colour blue ;) I'm generally proud of this post, but mainly just the fact that I finished early for once XD Please help yourself but kindly remember to:

I N F O R M A T I O N
(in which I ramble about the method to my madness... the full list and explanation of the themes I had to choose from can be found here)
01. Not easy to work with short hair, so I chose this image because her style was more wispy than usual. Originally I had a different concept in mind... but then I went with the wings instead and everything seemed to go nicely together from there. Textures by discolemonaaade & innocent_lexys
02. Used a close crop to focus on both her tiara jewel and three earrings, with light to give it a little extra sparkle since it seemed fitting. Light Texture by tunichtgut
03. I had intended to only use the part with Sailor Mercury holding Luna, but ended up keeping both and using the split background effect to play up the contrast between the two identities. Texture by candycrack
04. Love this image because it really embraces her geeky side, so I tried to make that the main focus through crop and text. Tinytext Brush by ennife
05. Ami is definitely a thinker, though this particular image seems to show it very clearly. The text in the background says 'daydream' since it seemed to best capture her expression.
06. Not exactly the 'pouty lips' kind of girl, but she sure does provide a lot of tech support! I felt this image drew focus to her lips better than any else could and worked in the radial lines to give it a more digital look. Texture by rhcp_csi
07. There are some really gorgeous images of Ami in lovely dresses, but cut into a small section. This is one of them, so I made use of the leftover space as a decorative field and had fun with the typographic treatment of her name. Texture by innocent_lexys. Tinytext brush by defective_story
08. Before I got a new computer, I used to consistently make much sharper icons, so this was a bit old school for me. Went with this picture because it had a graphical crispness to it that worked well with the tool.
09. Accidentally read this theme as 'short skirt' and when I saw this sticker with a much more flirty pose than we usually see, I knew it'd be perfect XD The stars are taken from the background package and edited in.
10. Naturally it had to be her wedding dress for this theme <3 She looks so beautiful and happy, wonder who the lucky groom is [insert otp here] ^^' Light Texture by mercury90
11-15. I chose this image because it had a lot of different design possibilities and because I thought she looked so very cute here XD
11. Since it had to be black & white, I wanted to play up the vintage feel with a frame and this large composition of border, pattern, flowers and feather seemed to crop nicely. Stock Texture by kltz_love
12. Her eyes were so bright and wide that I knew I wanted to focus my crop on them. Tried to bring out the vibrant cyans to really make them (plus her bangs/star jewel) pop!
13. This is one of my favourite corner decorations and I knew I wanted to use it before I had even chosen an image ^^' Had fun layering them together and then blending the colours/softening the edges so the lines between them blurred more. Texture by aaskie
14. A simple icon cropped to capture both her facial expression and hand gesture. Used selective colouring and exlusion/difference layers (bet that takes you back) to bring out the lighter yellowish-green shades
15. Challenged myself to use text here since, surprisingly enough, I hadn't really to much for this set. In the end the distant crop showing her full pose, the playful scribble of 'mercury' and the bright bubble-filled background shows her almost ready to attack. Light Texture by alien_dreams
16-20. As I was browsing for images, I kept stumbling upon these nifty sketches/doodles and kawaii chibi figures so I wanted to use some of them for this set. Tried to choose different types for visual interest and rotated the same texture since it seemed to really mesh well stylistically and conceptually. Texture by missesglass
16. Sailor Mercury blowing a heart shaped kiss to be carried off by the clouds and thread of fate to her one true love <3
17. A different kind of sailor scout, out enjoying the nice sea breeze with a happy grin and a playful wink ^^'
18. Typical Ami, with her nose buried in a book and imagination once again fully in bloom :)
19. Likewise, pencil in hand and thought clouds to suggest she has just had another brilliant idea XD
20. A Marilyn Monroe inspired pose and another secretive wink as her skirt gets caught in the updraft of the rising steam ;P
All my images came from MiniTokyo and the majority of textures/brushes have been credited above, because my general list is in sore need of updating. Please let me know if I forgot to mention you or otherwise ask if you want to know about something specific and I'll do my best to find it for you.
