Here are some of the most recent icons I've made.

1. I like the colouring of this icon, that said the large white area behind the subjects head is obscuring what is happening in the foreground and I can't quite make out what is in her hand that well. I assume if you know the fandom your knowledge would fill in the gap but I don't so I maybe would have done something too make the white less and the foreground pop out more. I am assuming the white was in the original cap so not that easy to do...

2. I feel the contrast is a bit too sharp on his face. At first glance it looks like his nose is mis-shapen or that you have brushed over it completely. The brightness has blown out that detail. Lovely colouring though and I love the texture use. ( I am assuming that texture in the background.)

3. I don't have much to say about this. I love the centre crop, the composition and colouring are lovely.

4. As above, I think this is a lovely icon.

5. I love the vibrant colouring of this and you've captured the emotion so weel, my one small concrit with this is the positioning of the middle image. There is a small gap on the right where you can see underneath to the other caps. It's not big but it's there. I found it really distracting. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not. if it was meant to give some contrast, I don't think it was needed and I probably would have used a different texture or brush to do so that it was more pronounced.

1. Yeah, that was my attempt to extend the background gone wrong. The white behind her head became really quite large. It was one of my biggest problems with this icon and I'm thinking I'm going to have to take another look at it.

2. I see what you mean here about his nose.

3 & 4. Thank you <3

5. I was experimenting with a border on either side of her face and I'm realizing that the green on the left hand side is not very noticeable at all.

Thank you for the concrit, it was very helpful : )

Wow, I love your work with lighting in this set! It's used to great effect. :)

1. On my monitor, this icon looks a bit blurry and washed out at spots. I think doing a general sharpen layer (and probably lowering the opacity on it, so's to not make the icon too sharp) would help make it feel more defined. And the large part in the upper middle that's white could, if darkened a little, hold a lot more color, which I think would add to the icon and help make it cohesive. I love the colors in this icon, also. :)

2. Again, this icon looks a bit washed out - the subject's face and especially his shirt are a bit too bright, and look kind of unnatural. Using layer masks on your screen/softlight layers might help to fix this, as can doing dark blobs set to softlight over parts that are bright (but this won't work on parts that are already white). Also, the edge of his shirt looks super sharp against the background - going over it with a blur brush at maybe 30% would help it look more smooth.

3. This icon is gorgeous. Her face could maybe use a bit more color, but it's really well done.

4. This icon could use a little better coloring, I think. The colors aren't very bright for the most part, and there's just not a lot of contrast between them - compare this icon to #1, where there's a lot more variation in hue and brightness, and I think you'll see what I mean. Using gradients or textures set to softlight or multiply is a great way to add more color, and could really pull out the blue/orange contrast between the two sides of the icon. Love your crop here, by the way!

5. Wow, another gorgeous icon! The only thing I can find to crit on this is the border near the top and bottom of the icon that's maybe a layer set to softlight or something? It's kind of odd to have that kind of border in the middle of her face - either taking it out or coordinating it with the split already in the icon would help it be more a part of the icon.

Hope some of that was helpful!

Thank you, I've been working a lot with light lately and I'm glad it seems I'm headed in the right direction : )

1) The white part was a struggle and I'm thinking I'll take another run at this icon to see what I can do about it and sharpen this a small bit.

2) Definitely seeing what you're talking about here.

4) I think I'll take another look at this icon as well and see what else I can pull out of it color-wise.

Thank you for the concrit. It was very helpful <3

Never given concrit before. Hope I don't sound like an idiot. karinmcr September 12 2011, 18:46:50 UTC
1. I don't know if it's just my monitor, but this icon looks a little lq and blurry. Maybe try sharpening it a little? Unsharp mask should be just right. Other then that the coloring is very lovely and vibrant.

2. I do feel like the contrast is a tad too high. Maybe try lowering it? I personally think curves are the way to go. The texture in the back is used perfectly and considering the original colorization, you've done a great job with the coloring.

3. Her hair's maybe a tad too sharpened, but other than that everything about this icon is gorgeous. The coloring, the crop. Everything.

4. I feel like there's a lack of contrast & brightness here. Perhaps a curves layer will do the trick. Nothing too drastic. The crop is spot on.

5. Really like one! The composition, the coloring, the sharpness is just right, and so is the brightness and contrast. Wish I had some sort of concrit to give you but I don't, lol.

Hope this made any sense.
