First Tutorial ~ Ron & Hermione
Today we're going to be making this icon: 
This is my first tutorial and it's pretty quick and easy. I use PSP8, but I'm sure it will translate.
We start with this picture
I cropped it and resized it to get this
It's kind of dull and blurry so I Adjust>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask I use the following settings Radius 0.70, Strength 100, Clipping 3.
After that I duplicate the base twice. I set the first one to Soft Light and desaturate it.
Then I set the top duplicate to Screen and desaturate it as well.
Next I paste a light texture made by ashke_icons as a new layer and set it to Lighten at 80%.
I paste a gradient made by _rockmonkey as a new layer and set it to Lighten at 100%.
We're almost done. Lastly I go to Adjust>Brightness & Contrast>Automatic Contrast Enhancement and use the following settings: Bias - lighter, Strength - normal, Appearance - bold.
And we end up with this.
And we're done.
