Like most makers, I absolutely love using textures on my icons. Almost as much as I absolutely hate dredging through my folders to find the right one. It always seems to break my concentration, plus after a while it's just... not fun.
I tried different techniques to make it easier - creating a "most used" folder, making a PSD so I could drag and drop - but none of them really worked.
But recently I had one of those no-brainer moments: I started saving textures as patterns (on Edit > Define Pattern on Photoshop) and ta-da, adding it to pictures is as easy to opening an adjustment layer. Better yet, you can set your pattern to a certain blending mode, then flip through various patterns to see which one is just right. No more guessing! No more waiting for gigantic files to load! It's bliss.
So my question is, have you had any "eureka!" moments in image editing? Things that seem really simple but were a breakthrough to you? Let's hear em.
