Caesar:
Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue shriller than all the music
Cry "Caesar!" Speak, Caesar is turn'd to hear.
Soothsayer:
Beware the ides of March.
Beware the Ides of March, Rose. She had sighed and rolled her eyes when he had told her this, she pauses, was it really nearly ten years ago? They had met for coffee at Benson's, a little corner of a place in Harlem. She laughs at the memory of their exaggerated disguises. He had sauntered into the cafe in a straw hat and lime green cowboy boots. To this day, she has never seen another pair of cowboy boots that looked quite that optimistic. She glanced up from her thoughts at the subtle ding-ding of the door. He didn't have on lime green cowboy boots but her heart still did that quick stutter, before it realized it was looking at him. She supposed that, that godforesaken stutter, was the reason for her current predicament. It was over. Finis. Fin. Sam, just like Jim, and the various others before, hadn't been able to squelch that stutter. Granted, they had repressed it, made it lie dormant for a time. Some times had been longer than others. She shakes her train of thought away as he sits down, and she blurts out the news. She amazed at how much composure she has, how she can say this like it's the weather forecast. She absentmindedly stirs her coffee, one milk, two sugars like this doesn't matter, like this is just another day in Earth's revolution around the Sun. When she looks at him, he's shaking his head, "Remember what I told you?" and suddenly, without warning, they're smiling at each other from across the table and she knows that yes, she should have worried about this day.
