Anniversary presents are fun.

Mike decided to give me money to buy a camera for our anniversary.
I told him that for Christmas I wanted a Nintendo DS or a new camera, and he suggested I just get the camera now. The shutter for my craptastic Fuji hasn't been opening, I sometimes would have to turn the camera on and off several times before being able to snap a picture. He was often around and heard the inevitable grumbling and cursing that came along with that, so he was eager to make it stop.

I did a good amount of research on cameras before making this purchase. I had about $300.00 set as a budget in mind, but really was hoping to stay under $250. I succeeded.

I was kind of swaying towards a Canon already based on frequent recommendations. I know I could have saved $10-$20 on just about anything if I had ordered it online, but I was itching to walk out of a store with it that TODAY. So I decided that a savings of $25 or more would prevent me from making an in-store purchase.

After several items up for consideration (including the pink Sony and pink Casio that I found, which really were a waste of time to research ratings for) I went with the Canon SD1000.

The first picture I took with it nearly made me pee my pants. I couldn't believe the difference in quality from my wimpy Fuji A360. If you ever feel like being entertained, go look at the hilarious and embarrassing reviews for the Fuji. I can't believe I suffered with it for so long.

My main issue was not having something cumbersome as far as settings/controls and point-and-click precision was a must. I was tired of having to take 3-10 pictures to get the shot I was aiming to achieve. The reviews for lesser models that I had seen (Olympus FE230, Nikon D50) didn't even compare.

I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Now all I need to do is pick up a memory card and a case... and I'm ready to go!
