That sucks that your mom disappointed you. I guess every children tries to live up to what their parents expect... and I suspect that if they did encourage you and tell you how great you did, then you'd have a higher self esteem.
Maybe now that you're older, your parents expect you to suck it up and face "real life". I think you should try to pat yourself in your shoulder for doing well... since only you have the reigns to yourself and only you can change yourself, no one else. My point is, live up to only your expectations, no one else's. In the end, it's only you that have to live with what happens to you.

Sorry if I seem a little too seroius, but it's hard to explain stuff like this and I know how cheesy or "repetitive" they sound... and I'm trying to figure out a combination that might send my truth across.

But I'm positive you'll be ok, no doubts about it, since you are an intelligent human being and capable of solving problems.
I'm saying all human beings are intelligent and capable of figuring things out... I just think in some situations, we all need help... even if it may have only a temporary effect.

And I think that's cute that a boy took interest in you! I think you should get in touch with him and take a chance... From relatively speaking, I've just done that and found my ultimate companion.
