This morning Dino is in the kitchen and he calls me to come look at something. So I go and look out the window to see the neighbor's cat sitting on the fence inside our yard.
We've seen this cat around now and then since we moved in. We don't know what his name is, but we call him Henri, because the first time Dino saw him, he was reminded of
Henri, le Chat Noir (though now that we've gotten better looks at him, neighbor Henri resembles web star Henri only in being extremely fluffly). Neighbor Henri has had a couple of middle-of-the-night altercations with Cindie through one of the downstairs windows, and I've caught him rifling around in the lilac bush out front, either getting on or coming off our roof. But as both Dino and I are fond of cats, we don't mind Henri occasionally hanging around in our yard. He doesn't make too much trouble (except with Cindie), and always runs away from us.
Anyway, this morning he was playing on our fence, inside our yard, apparently interested in watching something in the next yard over (apologies for the grainy cell phone photos).
Dino and I went out onto the deck to watch what Henri was doing, and we were so interested in him, and at first we didn't even notice what was in the yard behind ours.
They're not easy to see in these cell phone pictures, but back by the gate in the yard behind us, there's a moose lying in the grass. And you can just barely see the ears of another moose over the top of our back fence.
It turned out to be a mother and baby. Here you can better see the mother and the baby's ears:
After a couple minutes of us watching, the baby gets up and goes over to the mother:
And he starts nursing :)
Meanwhile, Henri heard something going on back there, so he walked along the fence to the corner, and peeked through the wooden slats so that he could watch the moose!
He's a secret spy kitty!
I love living in Alaska :D
