So today we were going to go to Equifest 2013 at one of our local horse parks, to see horsies and have a picnic and all. But we ended up not going, because the event was postponed. And why was the event postponed?
Because of this:
Yes that's right, SNOW! Yesterday, on May 18th, it freakin' snowed here in southcentral Alaska. We had been pretty much snow free; everything was melted off, Dino and I had gone metal detecting in our new backyard, people had started planting (too early, imho, Anchorage planting is usually Memorial weekend). And then it snowed. I took the picture above this morning when I went out to get the mail.
Not the latest recorded snowfall here (that's May 22, 1964), but we did set a record for the longest number of days between the first snowfall of the season and the last - 231 days. (

You all know that I usually don't mind snow or winter. I like it cold and dark. But even I have about had it for this year, I have to admit. I'm ready for spring, to see what blooms in my new yard, and to plan out what I'd like to add. I'm ready to go to fun events like Equifest and explore some of the parks in our new neighborhood. This snow certainly won't stick for long, but the faster it goes away, the happier I'll be.
