I'm on my way out the door to the gym. Just three more visits after today and I'll get a reimbursement from work! Enticement! (I need something to keep me going; my rear is killing me from running on the treadmill at a high incline. Six more weeks till Faire!)

B. Basch/Drace. I actually read a fic years ago where Drace didn't die and helped Basch assume the role of Gabranth. I wish I could remember the link, because it was very well written. Anyway, he's trying to put himself in his brother's shoes, she's resentful because he looks so much like Noah (and she's the only one that he let call him that) but it's obvious that he's not Noah. She's in mourning and feels as if she's betraying Gabranth's memory, yadda yadda yadda... ANGSTMUFFINS.
C. Basch/Vaan. I can see the mentor-student dynamic between them, but nothing more.
D. Basch was married once. (and this little piece of headcanon was created just to make my inner fangirl squee) They met when he first came to Rabanastre - her father owned a small protectives shop and offered him a place to stay until he could get settled somewhere in the city. He might have gone off to serve in the king's army, but over the years the two of them fell in love with the other and eventually married.
And here's where my headcanon actually forks: Scenario One says that she died in the plague/fiend attack in the desert/something along those lines when they were still newlyweds, causing Basch to fall headfirst into his role as Captain as a way to deal with his grief. Scenario Two says that she fled Dalmasca after Basch was labeled a traitor in order to avoid angry mobs and eventually ended up in Bhujerba working in Beruny's weapon shop. Scenario Two, sub-section A states that she and Basch never met while the gang was there, so she still thinks that he's dead. Basch thinks the same of her since Gabranth told him so in order to break him. Both of them never remarry. Scenario Two, sub-section B states that they did bump into the other when the crew was in Bhujerba. Happy reunion ensues, but following the storyline's plot, they can't ever be together, even when she packs up and heads out to open her own shop in Arcades just to be closer to him. Either way on any scenario, ANGSTCAKES.
Because you know that there's a rule stating that Basch can never be happy, no matter what.
E. Ashe. He might care for her welfare and respect her as a person, but duty keeps him from stepping over boundaries. Besides, Vossler is his best bud; he can't go stealing his girl
