Happy father's day to all the dads on my flist!
Barbecue went great. Ribs turned out spectacular and the kebabs made the backyard smell like the steak on a stick booths at the Faire. Barbecue sauce is much tastier warm and the pasta salad is a lot better after having a few hours to chill in the fridge. Wonder of all wonders, my pie crust came out both tender and flaky and the merangue topping was fluffier than I've ever managed to get it with a hand mixer alone.
Dad had to go out of town for the better part of the day, so I wound up putting his new grill/smoker together myself. 30 minutes, a lot of cussing, and a cut finger (metal edges are SHARP, who knew? *eyeroll*) later and it was ready to go. He did wind up coming home right as I was putting the meat on the grill, so we hung out in the backyard while everything cooked. And nothing burned! It was a family miracle! Usually something winds up looking like charcoal, so I tihnk I broke tradition, especially since some of the thicker cut sirloin tips came out a medium-well instead of well done.
And now I'm baking a cake for my boss' birthday tomorrow. And staring at the pile of dishes in the sink that I do NOT want to do. *groan*
