I love Bill's description of reading/choosing a book btw. Made me think about slow sex with Bill Adama and the book and glasses on the shelf above Laura's rack in Disquiet. Guh.

I thought about writing a wedding scene into this fic, but decided to leave it hanging.

I may have had a similar thought. Gah.
Thanks for reading. I know it wasn't quite your thing.

I was also surprised you made Bill so angry and emo about it. I know Bill is an emotional guy but I still think it was merely a one night stand for him. I didn't think he had any great feelings for her. Let's face it - he never even asked her name for a long while. I just sort of thought he would go 'oh well - at least I know I can still give good secksing, let's move on'.

Also, I think it's interesting that you said Ellen's a tart when Saul's the one boffing his buddy's gal he just had the night before. What does that make Saul?
And who knows! Maybe they were just talking. ;)

I think what I like most about the Bill/Saul interaction here is that they obviously move past it. It becomes another factor that just strengthens their bond (much to Ellen's later dismay). Plus, I can see some residual guilt on Saul's behalf influencing his unwavering loyalty to Bill.
I love how this makes me re-think future scenes with such glee (like TMU, TMD in particular, but I never need encouragement to watch that ep). This is totally my personal canon.
tjonesy, thank you for your generosity and your dogged bidding on icedteainthebag's skills. I feel like I scammed a request fic of my own, for free, because this is something I've wanted to see written for a long time.
Ms. Bag, (blame bsg_aussiegirl for planting that new favorite name in my brain) thank you for whoring yourself out for a fantastic cause, and thank you for taking a rather niche pairing and rocking it like you own it. This story is an instant, all-time favorite.
edit: I got contact fail from Bill.

You so did!
Also, I pointed out to Ms. Bag (bwahahaha) yesterday that she wrote the first Bill/Ellen fic that wasn't a drabble. And what a damned good story it was.

Yeah. The whole idea is to be detached. BE DETACHED, BILL!! You know, that thing you were doing with the wife before you realized what a fuckup you were but not until it was too late.

This thing's been through three endings, all of which had a different encounter between them. This was the last one I wrote, on the fly last night, and I was hoping it would leave you guys with the feeling that they can move past it, but not forget it.

Awww, that is AWESOME. And yesterday I was reading the TMU, TMD transcript just for fun and putting it into perspective. So I approve of this activity. that episode is so fantastic.

And of course he would get too emotionally involved with one night stands.
This was great :D.

When he eventually learns of Ellen and Saul's true identities, I'm sure it will absolve him of his angst.
Thank you for reading, I'm really glad you enjoyed the story.

Except when he's an emo tool yes.
Oh my gods, you're evil, you don't spare Bill anything here, do you?
One thing I know Ellen lacks is tact. He should have known that going in.
BUT I don't believe it's love Bill feels for Ellen, it's wounded pride, some male thing I guess.
Absolutely not love. Wounded pride, yeah, there is some of that. I don't think he thought anything was going to happen between them--I don't see him as having hopes about a relationship with Ellen at any point here. But it still stings like a bitch when you realize something that you may have invested yourself a little too much in emotionally (knowing it was wrong that you did) was not as significant for the other person.
He needs more than approval in the bedroom - he knows that, yet he has to start somewhere to get back his self confidence after "failing" being a husband and a father.
I kind of like this theory.
That's why he's angry with Saul and probably placed his fist right in Saul's face. Awww! I don't think so. ( ... )

Laughter, again, but he opens his eyes to an empty bed, the details of the dream flitting out of his conscience. The laughter isn’t theirs. It filters through the empty apartment like a score playing over the wrong musical.
This is such a brilliant, sad way to open this chapter. You realize Bill's probably been doing the "Day in the Life" scenario for twenty years. Also, at this point, he's unaware that he's about to lose the affection of the woman he spent his night with. Oh (((Bill))).
*Stares at T*
You seriously got your Bill fail on for this chapter, didn't you?
She’s gone. His heartbeat speeds up in his chest and he wonders if she’s gone home without telling him goodbye, maybe kissing him in thanks. He shouldn’t expect such things. This wasn’t ( ... )

He needs the hugs. The poor guy's a broken little bird. A broken little girl bird.
BEST. DESCRIPTION. EVER. I can totally hear Saul's voice and tone.
I had this rambling pronoun-filled sentence trying to describe Saul's voice and larsfarm77 bitchslapped me in the way she does (kindly) and I got to the point. I thank her for that.
He would have been feeling better about himself if he'd never laid eyes on her.
So true.
Um, no you didn't. But don't worry, Bill, you're going to find the most amazing woman in ANOTHER TWENTY YEARS! (((Bill)))This made me laugh but also, it's so fucking true, which is absolutely horrible ( ... )
