“Have you ever felt like you were with the wrong person?” I asked the other members one day.
They all stopped what they were doing and looked at me.
“What do you mean?” Ohno asked.
“I think I’m falling out of love with my girlfriend.”
“When did this happen?” Ninomiya said.
“What happened between you two? You seem a little… put off by this…” Sakurai said.
“We got into an argument the other day. I thought it was just a one night thing, I mean, we always make up. But she’s been ignoring me the past 2 days,” I told them.
“Why don’t you try giving her a flower? I bet she’d like that~” Aiba chimed in.
“She doesn’t like flowers. And she’ll only eat chocolate from Europe.”
“Sounds like a bitch,” Ninomiya smirked.
Sakurai and Aiba leaned over and hit him.
“Sorry! Just saying what I thought needed to be said. I know you were thinking it!” He swung a finger at all of us.
Ninomiya never was a person to keep his thoughts inside. I had to agree with him after hearing myself talk about her.
“I guess if we’re going along those lines… MatsuJun… she’s not the best person you’ve chosen,” Sakurai said.
“I agree!” Ohno said in a half awake tone, raising his hand.
“Guess I should break up with her, huh?” I rubbed the back of my neck.
“I’ll go with you, if you want.”
“You will? Ohno-san is actually getting out and doing something!” Ninomiya teased.
“Hey, that’s not funny. I do things,” he tried to defend himself. We all laughed at him.
~~
“Well, she should be here soon, I hope,” I said. I checked my watch. Only another five minutes until the time we said we’d meet. My stomach felt weak with nervousness and my heart was pounding. Why me?
“Just give it-“
“Jun!” A voice interrupted my friend.
I turned around to see my girlfriend walking over. She had a tall man walking closely behind and my first thought was that she was seeing this guy behind my back. Oh, how I hoped I was wrong.
Her hair was mid-length, right around her shoulders and she had dark eyes but with the gold make-up she was wearing, they were really pretty and stood out. She wore skinny jeans and a fluffy jacket with boots that had a heel of at least a couple of centimeters. She looked like she was ready for a night of clubbing.
“Kimi.” I wanted to speak up and call her out but I hated to be called out myself, so I kept quiet.
“Who’s this?” she asked rudely.
“Ohno Satoshi,” Ohno said. He held out a hand to shake but once we heard a growl come from the taller man behind her, we backed down.
“Is he always this grumpy?” I teased.
“What do you want?” she said. “I have somewhere to go, so if you wouldn’t mind hurrying up.”
“I’m breaking up with you.” I made a blank, disapproving face and said it.
She clicked her tongue and changed her pose before shooting me a dirty look. “Fine. I was getting bored of you anyway.” She motioned the taller man, who wrapped a hand around her waist. “I’ve found someone better.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes, but for some reason it didn’t shock me as much as I thought it might. It reassured my earlier thought. At the moment, losing her wasn’t that big a loss in my view. I didn’t think many good things of her while she was standing before me. I even questioned what I saw in her and why I even dated someone like that to begin with. Everyone was allowed a fluke at one point or another.
“If we’re over and done with, don’t contact me again,” she said. She turned around with the man’s hand still on her waist and walked away with him.
“Wow, Jun. You were…unusually calm…” Ohno said once they left. “I always thought you were one of those people that would blow up…”
“That was a very… abnormal breakup, don’t you agree?” I was still stuck in the last few minutes of strangeness.
“I do… You don’t need her.” He patted me on the back.
“What do I do now?”
“What do you mean? Jun-kun!” Ohno straightened me out. “You don’t always have to have someone! Enjoy being single! You can do anything!”
“You’re right!”
We broke down and laughed. The entire situation in the past five minutes was ridiculous.
“Ah~ She was crazy. You really don’t need someone like that.” Ohno stretched and let out a yawn.
“Hey, do you want to sleep over tonight? My house is close by and we’re going to the same place tomorrow anyway,” I offered.
“Let me call my mom and tell her.” He pulled out his phone, dialed a number and walked away. He came back a minute later.
“You have to tell your mom? You’re almost 30.”
“I only called to tell her I wasn’t coming home,” he laughed. “I don’t live alone, you know.”
We started our walk back to my apartment.
“So, why weren’t you all… crazy when she walked off?” he asked me.
“Our argument that started the whole rift was over something she wanted to do. She had said something about wanting an open relationship. I wasn’t too keen on the whole idea. I’m a one person type of guy. I don’t like to share.”
“Such a shame. You’re such a nice guy too~” he praised.
I blushed slightly at the compliment. I bask in praises but getting a comment from Ohno- and it actually meaning something- made me happy.
~~
When we walked into the apartment, we kicked off our shoes and hung up our jackets. I had to move a few over because it was the winter months and I didn’t feel like putting any back in my wardrobe so they all just hung there. I apologized for the tiny mess which Ohno made fun of me for because the entire room looked spotless except for the sink, which I still had to clean from this morning. I leaned over the counter and propped my head on my hands. Ohno stared at the different pictures I had on the wall opposite the kitchen.
“You never answered my question earlier.” I reminded him of my question from the green room.
“About being with the wrong person? I’ve felt that way before. I still think that way. But I’ve also found that the wrong person for me is the same as the right one.”
“How is that possible? Do I know them? It’s not Nino, is it? That would be terribly awkward.”
“Oh no, it’s not. I’m pretty sure you know the person though. I’ve been wanting to say something but I never have the guts. We’re too close for me to really do anything.”
“How much do you like her?”
“More than you know…” He looked over his shoulder at me and gave me a look that made me stop dead.
“Can you tell me who it might be?”
“I’ll give you clues~” He turned towards me and ran a finger on my table, playing with the grain in the wood. “He’s a fellow actor, he has brown hair and brown eyes. He’s extremely uptight sometimes and he’s an absolute health nut. He loves to make fun of me but he would never hurt me intentionally.”
“He… sounds like a nice guy,” I said softly.
With each ‘clue’ he gave, he took a step forward. Advancing towards me, like he was being pulled by a magnet.
“He’s a lady killer, a heartthrob to all of those near him. He loves to perfect everything he does. His name….”
My heart skipped a beat as his face got closer and closer to mine. He probably had to extend himself on tiptoes to reach my height. He bounced up and stole a tiny kiss from me.
“…is Matsumoto Jun,” he finished.
I didn’t know what to tell him. I’d seen it coming with his ‘clues’ and if I wanted to stop him, I would have, right? How do you respond to someone you’ve known for the better part of your life when they tell you they love you and have waited for you?
“You’re a dangerous being, Jun.”
“How so?” I whispered.
“I could get us into a lot of trouble by having feelings for you. It isn’t normal…”
“Who said it had to be ‘normal’ or ‘right’? If you love someone, as strongly as you do… wouldn’t you want to be happy with them?”
Our words were quietly fading to silence and simple touches started in the dying words’ place. I couldn’t resist him and he was obviously lustful now that I knew I was always on his mind. His hand fumbled mine with light touches and eventually his fingers slid across the bare skin of my arm, giving me pleasant chills.
“We’re both lonely, aren’t we? Wouldn’t you like to let everything melt away for just a few moments? I’m yours for the taking…” He was very careful with his words. They were very enticing and I was finding it extremely difficult to say no. When did he get so good at persuasion?
“You have a bed and I’m sure that you haven’t been very… active, lately.” He laid a hand over my crotch and stroked up. That got me started.
“You want top or bottom?” I said.
Who cares if it ‘isn’t right?’ If no one knows, then what does it matter? It only meant that once the deed was done, it was done.
Have you ever felt like you were with the wrong person? At that moment, in my apartment, I certainly was. But it didn’t matter. What really mattered was that I didn’t mind making love to him. Was it wrong? Yes. Was it right? Yes. Was I happy?
Yes.
