So, Pirate was fantastic again. Braden and I were a few of the first people tapped into the Advanced track, which was a lovely ego boost. The classes were just enough difficult to push me to think, and not just step through it. The first dance was meh: I got lots of compliments about my super bad ass hair, but not a lot of dancing requests, which was sad. The second dance was better, though the music the first night was better. I asked Braden to get pictures of my outfits, but what he took, were pretty portraits. Admittedly, I like this one quite a bit.
In black and white, it looks all elegant and pretty instead of just super cute. But man am I happy with the color there.
Sunday morning was office hours, where folks got to dance with instructors and get personalized feedback, and it was such an ego boost for both myself and Braden. First, Reuel was all: you're one of the most continuous follows here, very smooth. I was like *squee!* The crit there was to work on my defaults: when given a round movement, go round, when given a walk, don't triple. Then, I danced with Joe, and Joe was all you're a fabulous follow, so much so that you don't take risks to make yourself look better. Which, damn, I'm at that point? YAY. So Joe recommended working on using my arms a little more, working on moments of compression(because I'm good at stretching to the end of my frame, but not the opposite of that) and working on introducing new rhythms within what I've been given as a follow. Aand Michael caught me doing something with my arm, and asked me to bring it up higher so that the hand could be caught, rather than cutting off dudes from certain actions, but also said that I felt pretty good, though I need to relax in my core so that some things will happen.
All of which, which even though looks like a lot of crit in among the ocmpliments, has made me feel, reeeeally good about my dancing for the first time in a long time. Previously, I had just felt, all right, now I actually feel pumped and happy to be out lindy hopping. Braden got the same sort of impact, it seemed like, to the extent that if we(Anna, Heather and I) decide CodeBLUE needs to have lessons, we're both ready to teach a slow lindy class
Braden also had a rather impressive moment where he danced with two girls at the same time on Sunday. I video'd some of it and posted it on Facebook. I suppose I should've just put it straight on youTube.
That's the Pirate wrap-up, argh!
