Vampires. Full Moons. Express shipping. Infomercials. Ghost hunters. What have all these things in common?
The Night. That great darkening of skies. The culling of the sun. The lighting of the stars and the beginning of fires, both electric and flame. The normal people huddle inside their homes and with loved ones. The odder people come out and frolic.
Ever see a rave during daylight? Ever really see people walking around in cloaks these days (except at Ren. Faires and SCA meetings) in broad daylight? Or grown ups wearing Rocky Horror Picture Show costumes? Yeah, me neither.
There seems to be some unwritten code that such things and such people need to be contained to the darkness. Somewhere where the normal people who work 8-5 Monday through Friday, watch football after going to church on Sunday, attend PTA meetings, and hit the bars when the mood suits, can't see them. As these normal people tend to like the daylight, the only time left seems to have been under cover of the night.
Why though? I mean, granted such people tend to like the darkness anyway, but why do the normal people feel so threatened by deviation? So much so that they would banish it from the light? Is it truly evil... or is it merely misunderstood?
And what about the semi-normal people that happen to enjoy the night? I, for one, like the night skies. I love the stars, the moon... the gentle clouds that make the skies grey on black. What is so wrong with that? Better question: what is wrong with the people who think there is something wrong with it?
Mayhap I spot the coming of dawn, or the setting of sun. God what fools these mortals be!
