Watch Patrick Stump Perform an A Cappella Medley of Kanye West’s Greatest Hits

Oct 20, 2011 14:18

As far as promotional gambits go for new albums, there haven’t been too many more inspired campaigns in recent years than the a cappella medley videos that Patrick Stump has been producing concurrently with the release of his solo debut Soul Punk. They showcase just about everything about Stump that makes him an appealing musician and personality-his outstanding voice, his musical ingenuity, and most importantly, his irrepressible energy and enthusiasm for pop music. They’re great fun for fellow pop aficionados, and they’re lovably unassuming little videos. (That bow tie!) Whether this will translate to Fall Out Boy-sized sales for the stellar Soul Punk…well, we’re hoping for the best. But you can’t say he didn’t try.

Latest from the Stump Vox Factory: A tribute to musical peer and 21st-century superpower Kanye West. Stump works his way through nearly a dozen Kanye classics in the space of four-and-a-half minutes, taking on not just Kanye’s lead artist work, but also his collaborations with Jay-Z (“Izzo (H.O.V.A.)”), Keri Hilson (“Knock You Down”) and Twista (“Slow Jamz”). The end result is enjoyably frantic, leading to awesome transitions like the first verse of “Slow Jamz” getting interrupted by the titular intro shout of “All of the Lights.”

Check out the video below, exclusively on Popdust, and scroll down a little for the medley’s complete track listing. And if you like what you see, you could do far worse things with your dwindling income than throwing a few bucks Soul Punk‘s way.
