TAMPA - A 21-year-old New Tampa woman was in critical condition after falling from the second-story balcony of an Ybor City club early Sunday, Tampa police said.

Jacqueline N. Rudzinski of 8801 Hunters Lake Drive, Apt. 625, was with friends at the Lotus nightclub, 1507 E Seventh Ave., when she fell from a second-story balcony about 12:15 a.m., police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.

She was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she remained Sunday evening.

McElroy did not know how Rudzinski fell, but she said witnesses suggested it was an accident.

"We are still trying to interview witnesses there that night," she said.

Since August, Rudzinski has lived with a cousin in The Vinings at Hunter's Green, an apartment complex off Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. She moved from Illinois to attend school, but McElroy did not know which one.

In 2001, Rudzinski graduated from Rantoul Township High School, about 120 miles southwest of Chicago.

After high school, she moved to Urbana, Ill., to attend the University of Illinois. Rudzinski left the school in February 2004, according to the school's Web site.

McElroy said Rudzinski's parents came from Illinois and are with her at the hospital.

Lotus co-owner and general manager Keith Zlomsowitch could not be reached for comment. The club opened in early October after its predecessor, Twilight, closed May 2.
