Norwescon itinerary.

Sorry for the last-minute post. Here's my panels I'll be on at Norwescon this weekend.

They had me listed on a "Beginning Sculpting" panel, Saturday at 1:00, that I'm definitely ditching out on, because I don't know a damn thing about sculpting. (?!) I'm probably ditching out on the "Modern Horror Fiction" panel, too, because of the Merchants of Deva party. (That's during the block of time I said I wasn't available, so I can't feel too bad about that.)

cithra, who was at the con yesterday, says I'm scheduled for a reading. Would have been nice if they'd told me, don't you think? Too bad I don't have anything new to read. We'll see what happens with that.

TITLE DESCRIPTION DAY ROOM TIME Why Horror? What draws people to horror and why? Friday Evergreen 1 1:00 PM Because I'm Evil What would Star Wars be without Darth Vader? What would Peter Pan be like if Captain Hook had been competent? A good villain can define a hero and make a story great but a poor villain can make a mockery of an otherwise good tale. Come explore the important contributions made by the Dark Side. Friday Cascade 6 3:00 PM The Language of Horror Is there a vocabulary that is truly horror? What words differentiate this genre from SF/F? Can you really tell? What parameters does one use to distinguish a cliché or phrase that is horror? Friday Cascade 5 5:00 PM Animals in Horror It's fine to say that animals, as symbols of nature and of the unconscious, represent a force beyond our control -- and our knowledge -- and therefore can seem frightening. That statement won't do a great deal towards helping you to write the scariest animal story since Cujo. How can you use animals in your stories to evoke fear? Friday Cascade 5 8:00 PM Everybody Kills Somebody, Sometime What are the rules for traumatizing, maiming, and killing fictional characters believably? Learn the gentle arts of fictional murder from the experts. Saturday Cascade 4 8:00 PM Modern Horror Fiction There are a lot more horror authors out there than just Anne Rice, Steven King, and Saul. Where is the genre going? Is it a dying breed, doomed by the mass market and the assembly line of books from the best known authors? Saturday Cascade 4 9:00 PM Common Mistakes in Writing Horror We all make mistakes. This panel will help writers to learn from the mistakes others have made Sunday Cascade 5 2:00 PM
