shouldn't have complained about being busy, as we're stuck in beirut now, for the time being, with not all that much to distract us from scary news broadcasts all day long, and the sound of explosions and gunfire keeping us up at night ( Read more... )

Transfigurations by Resonant is massive and sustaining, there is also Bed and Board for your Harry/Ron/Hermione needs, and the Familiar in which Harry becomes Snape's pet frog. No, seriously. Bright Shiny Objects has links to lots of good stuff, although an unfortunate few are broken since it hasn't been updated in some time. Polyamorous Recs (just a name, not indicative of all the content) is also very trustworthy. Halrloprillalar has mostly short stuff but there's a lot of it, and Sides is one of my favorite H/D stories. I like Victoria P. for MWPP-era stuff, in particular this bit where Lily is a ho and James is oblivious. Death Eaters at the Malfoy Estate is classic crack-fic and Descensus also does Death Eater backstory, except it's dark and elegant and ridiculously sexy.

If you want to horrify yourself with totally gratuitous kink in bizarre and unecessary pairings (which I find I often do), look here.

Take care. ::hugs::

::hugs back:: i miss you.

i've had limited internet access, but i glanced at 'sides,' and it's wonderful in the same was as mira's one about ginny and the lubberkin, whatever that was called.

so, most of my alcoholic european friends have fled on their own, and among the dwindling numbers left i discovered a firefly maniac, and she's so far shown me the first 3 episodes.
would you be so kind as to point me in the direction of the simon/river?

also, do people write kaylee/inara? 'cuz if they did that would rock alot.

OH, MAN. OKAY. :)

First off let me say there is a lot of Simon/River I don't like, because a lot of writers seem to want to excuse Simon, so you see a lot of, like, River coming into Simon's room while he's asleep and basically raping him, with him not waking up until they're half-done and then of course he just WITHSTANDS it because he would sacrifice ANYTHING for her. Which, no. Because all of the Simon/River subtext? Comes from SIMON, and his devotion/obsession. I like a good complicit Simon.

SECONDLY, my foremost Simon/River rec is episode four, "Safe". SERIOUSLY.

Having said all that, the Simon/River is here:
The Edges of Things by Jane St Clair
Ritual by Pearl-O
Tourniquet by Pearl-O
Logos by Te
pretty much anything by Rána Eressëa
Rounded with a sleep by Petronelle
Till human voices wake us, and we drown by Elizabeth Scripturient
Osiris
Serenity
by Elizabeth Scripturient
For Shame by Devon
Time Flies You Can't by Sabine, which doesn't so much have pairings as a soupy mess of everything, because it is the inside of River's ( ... )

i am not so familiar with the fan fic, but i can definitely recommend "a long way down" by nick hornby....it's light but not at all, and i couldn't put it down, it's thoughtful and funny and emotional and occasionally profound. nowhere near the scale of 'the hours' but it was completely diverting and completely sucked me in regardless. pure thoughtful escapism ( ... )

thank you. i'm going to check if the bookstore is open today. (that news story is about accurate, the way the girl described us huddled in the dormitory basement. the "shaking us to the bones" is a bit of an exaggeration, tho. and the strikes come and go, sometimes it's peaceful.)

I MISS YOU!

It is probably not quite your cup of tea, but I really loved Middlemarch, by George Eliot. I didn't want to put it down.

I'm sure you've probably read the Cassandra Claire Draco Trilogy (available on Schnoogle at Fiction Alley, if not), but it is rather riveting, so I thought I'd rec it.

Rhysenn is one of my favorite HP fanfic authors. Her stuff is available here.

it's sort of comforting. taking something so graphically violent and cutting it up the way he does, it sort of takes a bit of the edge off it, i thought. and one of those other stories sort of makes it more surreal too... its nice.
