Oooh, so Friday morning, really early and after getting about 3hours of sleep, I drove to Atlanta to visit with some SCAD Atlanta people about starting Intramurals up there.
All in all, it was a productive visit. The building that houses the college is amazing. They seem to have so much room and unfortunalty the only thing they don't have are more students. This is all change soon though. Highlights were meeting "Rich" the mysterous guy who owns is own gym and contracts physical trainers through "RichBody". This was a highlight because apparently no one knew he existed, kinda of like the Wizard of Oz...everyone has heard of him yet no one has ever seen him. However, apparently I was lucky becaue he came out of hiding to meet me. I also got to see one of my favorite professors, David Foote, who teaches now at SCAD Atlanta becaue it's more geared towards Advertisng there, and seeing the art work of some of my professor friends hanging around. I had a meeting with some students to see what kind of intrest there was for intramurals there, but unfortunalty only four kids came. I don't even really count them though because my host ran into them in the hallway and told them to come to the meeting.
Anyways, so after SCAD Atlanta and it's kick ass midtown location, I drove over to it's midtown neighbor, IKEA!!! IKEA is mecca. I went, I saw, I spent a long time looking a bookshelves, linens, lamps, tables, chairs...uh, the list goes on and on, meatballs too. I went in not really thinking I needed anything, but I walked out with a new bookcase (thanks to the employee who said I had a voice like Peggy Cass -not related to Momma Cass- ), a chair, some new bed linens, a lamp, and other various home wares I really needed after I convinced myself I did. IKEA makes me happy.
I wish I lived in a place near an IKEA because I would soo take up a part-time job. I loved being able to help some woman find a duvet cover for her daughter. She was saying her daughter is more tomboyish and likes the blues and greens as opposed to pinks and pastels. I told her I was standing there looking at the blue and green duvet covers too, and her daughter sounds alot like me. I told her I really liked the covers, and I would so buy them; however, I accessorize my bedroom with a deep red so the blue and green cover just won't work. As a matter of fact, the lady then went to grab the duvet cover but it was sold out. I reminder her that IKEA online is always open and shipping and handling wouldn't be as much as it would for ordering bookshelves...so she should totally get it.
After my IKEA date with destiny, I took a nap and then drove to Decatur to go see Brandi Carlile play at Eddie's Attic. The show was amazing (read my other posting) and the coolest thing was that Emily Saliers from the Indigo Girls was there to see Brandi play and she sat like 10ft away from me. Also, I went to go see the show by myself which can sometimes be boring. At first I was a little intimated by my surrounds and all the people there together or in groups, but as soon as I took my seat I started a lovely conversation with these women who had gone to see Ray Lamontange play back in Dec and had had their "first" Brandi experence. They bought me drinks. They wanted to keep on buying me drinks, but I had to sadly decline because I needed to make it back to my SCAD Atlanta housing. The show was amasing and I think that Brandi played her heart out for Emily. After the show Emily even asked Brandi to sign her CD and I can bet that Brandi was in 7th Heven. How often does an idol of yours request for you to autograph something...not very often. I can only imagine how floored Brandi was..what a compliment! I took a good many photos and also a little bit of video. I need to figure out how to use the video aspect of my camera better so I can take longer videos. I also got a picture of Brandi and Emily afterwards. I also said hi to Brandi again and gave her a "plays well with others" button. The least I could do.
Also afterwards, some people wanted to talk to me, they were very conversational. I think they wanted to buy me drinks too, it was odd.
Early Sat I got up and drove back to Savannah. The highlight was stopping at Dunkin Dounts in Macon for some much needed coffee.
Sunday was spent putting togehter my new IKEA bookshelves. It's funny because this morning I got up and I saw them out of the corner of my eye and I'm like oooh, I like. And then I realise they are mine. It's fun...your're like..yeah...I did buy these didn't I?
On Sunday night, I cleaned my house. I did not watch the "Superbowl". Even though I liked both of the teams that were playing...(my mom is a diehard Pittsburgh fan and I've always liked the Seahawks for 1) their team colors...blue and green, 2) their logo...that native seahawk motif, 3) I'm looking to move there, and 4) I loved Steve Largent)... I could care less. I am a horrible American for not being drawn to the connsumeristic and voyeristic notions that become our pastimes and enjoyment. Instead, I celebrate the Scandinavian notions of consummerism through Swedish furnature and good design.
